Sr. Manager of Security Engineering Rapid7 - Los Angeles


Job Description

Position Overview:
We are looking for a talented, technical, hands-on leader with exceptional communication and people management skills to lead our Security Engineering team. The Security Engineering team is responsible for consistently delivering new vulnerability signature updates through research and automation, as well as improving the accuracy and scalability of our scan engine to meet the demands of our customer’s evolving IT risk assessment needs. Qualified candidates must have creative problem solving skills, deep knowledge of the IT security domain and best practices, as well as the ability to derive and implement metrics. The ideal candidate will also have prior experience working in an Agile (Scrum) development environment, experience in various development languages such as Java, C++, and/or Ruby, knowledge of networking protocols, and demonstrated interests in the computer and network security field. Candidates should also have knowledge of the Vulnerability Management industry, as well as experience building and evolving compelling commercial network or open source security products (either personally or professionally).

Responsibilities:
Lead a growing Security Engineering team focused on research, automation, and feature development.
Consistently deliver new SLA-bound vulnerability signature updates and scanning product enhancements for NeXpose.
Proactively recommend process, methodology, and technology/tool improvements based on industry best practices.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with peers, management, external vendors, and other interested parties to meet business goals and drive next generation improvements to NeXpose.
Derive metrics to measure Security Engineering effectiveness and efficiency.
Desired Skills & Experience

Required Skills and Experience:
Exceptional people management and communication skills with demonstrated success in delivering results.
Hands-on, technical management experience with creative problem solving skills.
Technical background related to programming/scripting languages and automation tools.
Working knowledge of at least one well-known common network protocol (IP, TCP, UDP, ICMP, HTTP, FTP, etc).
Not Required, but Strong plus:
Vulnerability Management domain expertise a plus.
Prior experience working in a Scrum environment a plus.
Experience in crafting vulnerability signatures or exploits.

Reports to: Director of Engineering
Location: Austin, TX, El Segundo, CA, or Boston, MA
Travel: Up to 10%
Education: BS or related work experience preferred
