Independence Consultant - Assistant Director (Dallas, Houston or Secaucus) Ernst & Young - Dallas



Job Description

The Assistant Director-Consulting provides in-depth advisory and consulting support to diverse client service and infrastructure teams in the area of Independence policies, Quality and Risk Management (Q&RM) and associated regulatory rules to identify and mitigate potential risks to the firm. The Assistant Director is responsible for consulting on complex, non standard issues on one or more Independence or Quality and Risk Management policies or procedures such as Business Relationships Evaluation and Tracking, Public Company Independence Procedures, Independence Compliance Audit Group or Independence Compliance Team. The Assistant Director utilizes technical knowledge and service line or infrastructure expertise to be a key contributor in discussions relating to Independence and Quality & Risk management issues, policies and procedures with executive level personnel across the Americas and across broad service and industry lines. The Assistant Director is an experienced professional whose knowledge has been expanded through exposure to diverse and/or complex Quality and Risk Management situations and who can work independently to provide counsel or guidance on complex issues that deviate substantially from the norm. Responsibilities Utilizes broad technical knowledge and service line or infrastructure expertise to identify and resolve policy and procedure issues, violations and concerns. Discusses and interacts with Americas Independence executives and local country or service line leaders to gain consensus around solutions. Leads moderately complex assignments or leads aspects of highly complex assignments. Proposes suggestions and solutions for improvements to process/es and/or develops new approaches or deliverables by leveraging Independence, Quality and Risk Management and business experience. Identifies and reports best practices within area of focus. Manages client relationships so that expectations are met or exceeded by advising what to expect and by when and through listening to clients' needs. Understands key requirements of firm policies and regulators' independence rules and is also fully knowledgeable about other Quality and Risk Management areas outside of their own area of expertise. Keeps abreast of emerging knowledge, trends and lessons learned. Creates and delivers training presentations to communicate new developments and resulting impacts to clients and Quality and Risk Management team members. Through regular interaction, develops relationships and builds a network of people within Quality & Risk Management and across the firm. Identifies and extracts key internal or external issues and risks related to Business Relationships Evaluation and Tracking, Public Company Independence Procedures, ICT, Personal Independence or other Quality and Risk Management processes. The Assistant Director must use significant levels of independent judgment and discretion in identifying issues and analyzing risk across industry and service lines interpreting relevant firm policies and guidelines. Review proposed business relationship to be sure it meets firm independence policies and requirements. The individual has an enhanced understanding of key requirements of firm independence policies and regulator's rules. The position makes recommendations based on firm guidance, professional standards and acquired experience.Individual will reference existing policies and their knowledge and experience to review complex situations and, through consultation and inquiries of the client team, propose solutions to issues. Takes responsibility for complex Independence projects or parts of highly complex projects and works independently with periodic feedback. Assistant Directors may train and mentor Quality and Risk Management Independence ranks below their level to familiarize these individuals with firm processes and policies and to enable these team members to handle more complex issues. Position may require the management of process team members or co-ordination of virtual teams engaged in completing work reviews including assigning work and reviewing performance.

To qualify candidates must have:
  • a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • approximately 7-10 years related experience
Knowledge and Skills Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of firm's independence policies and regulators' rules
  • Familiarity with other Q&RM initiatives outside of their specific Quality & Risk Manager area of expertise
