Director of Engineering at NELSON


Job Description

NELSON is seeking a Director of Engineering in Dallas, TX. The primary focus of this position will be to manage and mentor the Engineering Line of Business as well as be responsible for new business development and account management.

This position will also be responsible for overall staffing, monitoring of contract parameters, finances, overall office budget administration, market analysis, penetration strategy, and community involvement. Additional responsibilities include: setting and communicating the team’s direction within the context of the Company strategic vision, developing, directing, and monitoring short-term and long-term plans consistent with the overall profit and growth objectives of the Company, as well as being responsible for design and review of engineering projects and coordination of production activities to meet the client schedules.

Responsibilities include:

Business Development:
•Conduct business development activities by contacting potential clients, maintaining current relationships with clients and brokers, identifying and addressing obstacles and challenges throughout the market and region.
•Become intimately familiar with the local market, e.g., opportunities, competitors, etc., and devise/implement a strategy for growing the local and national presence. With the support of Marketing Communications, oversee local PR and branding initiatives
•Organize and lead key client presentations
•Provide input into project team development, identification of required consultants, scope of services, schedules and presentations

Operational:
•Develop and communicate annual budget to local leadership as appropriate.
•Champion the strategic business goals and expectations as communicated by Senior Management and provide the necessary reports and data to facilitate management decisions regarding client and project management.
•Work with the Account Executives and Senior Management to ensure accurate and timely projection submission
•Assume primary accountability for implementation and monitoring of all projects in Engineering Line of Business to ensure that work is completed in accordance with the contract and client expectations
•Promote a high performance project management culture that meets all contractual obligations and aggressively works to identify opportunities to provide additional services
•Support the efforts of Accounting through the monitoring of accurate project set-up documentation, reviews and approvals of consultant and client invoices, monitoring of outstanding invoices and support in collections as needed to drive profitability
•Sign and seal drawings as appropriate

Staff Management:
•Be available to the staff as a mentor and coach. Promote Teammate Development Plan communication and professional development.
•Conducts Teammate meetings to update entire team on current Company or Office news, policy updates, etc.
•Supervise and facilitate staff assignments for all projects by effectively utilizing Teammates to maintain positive interaction while ensuring the highest service and product quality that a client expects, consistent with the company’s contractual obligations
•Ensure the coordinate of all staffing activities for your assigned office(s) including recruiting, retention, development and termination, with the support of Human Resources
Skills

Minimum Job Requirements:
•Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, Master’s or equivalent experience preferred
•10-15 years experience in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, and 5-10 years in leading/directing a team
•5-10 years successfully leading an engineering team
•NCEES Licensed Electrical Engineer preferred/P.E. required

General Qualifications:
•Possess a comprehensive knowledge of engineering, materials, construction methodology, building codes and regulations.
•Experience in corporate, higher education, healthcare, data centers, high rise hotels, apartments and condominiums up to six stories as well as call centers is desired.
•Understanding of the components of construction drawings and specifications and the ability to review documentation prepared by others for compliance with the design intent. Possess a thorough knowledge of design and production procedures and processes as well as internal quality assurance processes
•Broad based understanding of CAD, word-processing, project management and spreadsheet software
