Based in Aesop’s Head Office in New York, this position sits within the Creative team reporting to the Senior Art Director and is responsible for innovating within brand guidelines — proposing and executing conceptual solutions that express the brand through different channels and mediums (print, in-store, digital, etc.). It is also tasked with delivering visual solutions of exceptional quality for campaigns, marketing collateral and cultural projects, as well as providing conceptual print and digital solutions to global and regional campaigns as required. Situated in a highly collaborative setting, it involves frequent liaison with Marketing, Design, Product and Digital teams, including staff in offices overseas.
Creative
Global Campaigns: Partner with the Copywriter and other Creative Team colleagues on the development of innovative concepts for Aesop global campaigns. Implement global campaign concepts across a variety of deliverables: print materials, in-store communication, desktop, mobile, social, products, events, etc.
Regional Special Projects: Conceptualize and design content related to cultural partnerships — for instance, partnerships with literary or artistic foundations, artists, events and store openings of note. Liaise with external parties as required. Demonstrate understanding of marketing objectives and the ability to respond the accordingly.
Brand Custodianship: Act as a custodian of the brand to enforce strong style guides — the use of typefaces, logo, grids, colors, etc.
Content Creation: Create brand content and visual communications to drive international awareness and visitation to Aesop channels and stores through film, printed, interactive and other creative materials.
Talent: Source appropriate and inspirational partners to bring innovative concepts and experiences to life (Photographers, Designers, Artists, etc.). License existing imagery or commission unique imagery as necessary.
Shoots: Create photography and film briefs. Source talent. Attend shoots as needed.
Relationship Building: Build and maintain contacts and networks in artistic and cultural fields, including freelance designers who may be suited to Aesop projects.
Packaging: Concept and design bespoke product kits and packaging.
Production
Templates and Guidelines: Assist in the creation and enforcement of templates, guidelines and specification documents to aid seamless introduction of new deliverables to Creative, Digital, Global Marketing, and Regional Marketing.
File Management: An organized approach to artwork files — follow file naming protocol, server folder structure, etc.
Finished Art: Provide brand and graphic guidance to Finished Artists.
Print Production: Review printed proofs and attend press checks. Partner with Finished Art to seek out new print vendors.
Post-Production Management: Provide photography retouching notes and film editing notes to external partners and collaborators
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Communication Design/Graphic Design or equivalent.
Minimum 3 years' experience in creative department.
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite.
Strong portfolio that includes graphic design, photo art direction, and video art direction. On-set shoot experience preferred but not required.
Strong knowledge of the print production process; ability to approve proofs and attend press checks.
Ideally, a deep knowledge of and passion for literature, the visual and performing arts, and architecture and design. Or at a minimum, at least three of these fields.
A demonstrated understanding of the Aesop brand tone — in both copy and visuals.
An awareness of cultural sensitivities in the territories in which Aesop operates.
