The Sr. Director of Global Infrastructure Operations is responsible for everything related to Infrastructure and Platform technical operations at Workday, from on-premise data center operations, to ensuring core service infrastructure health, to lifecycle management of the server and network fleet. This individual will establish and manage the strategic vision of the team, leading the efforts to improve the availability and reliability of systems that align with Workday’s strategic platform and infrastructure initiatives.

By creating, leading and developing a critical team of engineers, you will be accountable for monitoring, supporting and improving all aspects of the technical environment. Beyond technical leadership, we are looking for someone to drive thought leadership, spur innovation and call out automation opportunities throughout the team and the larger organization.

Responsibilities:

Manage global teams to deploy and operate the physical data center infrastructure across the globe

Manage and lead a command center like environment, watching over all aspects of Infrastructure health.

Manage server upgrades, integration, rebuild and other projects as required

Partnering with Customer Support, and participate in customer troubleshooting calls and incident root causes analysis workgroups.

Partner with other organizations to drive operational best practices throughout all of Workday.

Understand and help the team debug network, server, and OS related issues

Identify and help create documentation for the global platform and infrastructure engineering knowledge base

Be forward thinking to support all teams in the reduction of potential risks to upcoming projects/releases

Track issues and analyze data looking for trends and systemic issues; metrics, metrics, metrics.

Drive specifications for tools and automation that facilitate lifecycle management (installation to decommissioning) of our server and network fleet at scale

Implement process improvements and inform best practices in production operations

Experiences:

10+ years in a forward-progressing technology management background; largely focused on supporting Linux based Infrastructure Operations.

A background operating large scale (10k+ server) data centers footprints, supporting production, revenue side, systems.

Management background which includes experience a.) managing managers, b.) managing a global workforce, and c.) managing an organization with a total team size of at least 30 employees.
