Uber is changing the world, and the Uber Legal Team is proud to be part of that. We’re looking for to hire an exceptional attorney to lead the newly formed Enterprise Product legal team in our San Francisco headquarters. This position will play a key strategic role leading a legal team that directly and broadly supports Uber’s business teams.
Serve as the lead attorney advising the business teams that support Uber’s Freight, Uber for Business, and Eats businesses around the world. You will support and lead a team of attorneys and legal professionals that support a dynamic organization of product managers, engineers, deal makers, designers, analysts, and operations specialists who are responsible for Uber’s Freight, Uber for Business, and Eats businesses.
Identify, resolve, and/or serve as first point of contact for wide-ranging legal issues relating to the business, including issues such as: transactional and commercial law, consumer protection, privacy, data security, litigation risk, intellectual property, marketing, regulatory, employment,licensing, and antitrust
Supervise, lead, mentor, and grow a team of attorneys and legal professionals in advising our businesses; and set and manage the team’s budget
Create and implement policies and practices to ensure consistent implementation of legal guidance and alignment on risks
Review global products, features, and initiatives to assess legal compliance across multiple jurisdictions, from the early stages of product development through launch and distribution
Negotiate strategic enterprise deals
Coordinate with other legal teams, such as Employment, Privacy, Payments, IP and Marketing, to quickly resolve issues and advise on risk mitigation strategies, across multiple jurisdictions, for the product teams you support
What You'll Need
J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state is required. Local candidates preferred.
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of legal experience in a combination of law firm and in-house settings
A demonstrated ability to successfully build and manage legal teams that directly support product and deal teams
Proven experience advising on consumer protection, privacy, data security, litigation risks, and commercial law issues
Demonstrated experience leading and negotiating complex transactions
Must be confident, collaborative, and able to operate in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated business aptitude and ability to move quickly
History of driving efficient and strategic use of resources, including technical groups, in-house counsel, vendors, and outside counsel
Global perspective with experience in matters involving multiple nations
Flexibility to perform in nimble, and rapidly changing and growing environments; adept at scaling
Ability to monitor, evaluate, and provide input on prospective legislation and legal trends.
Strong team orientation encouraging communication and cooperation across organizations and functions
Initiative, integrity, resilience, and ability to manage multiple large-scale projects.
Inquisitiveness, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address
Strong communication skills and demonstrated experience working with business leaders.
Ability to present information/complex legal matters clearly, and concisely
