The Sr. Director of Technology ensures the successful execution of BlackBerry AtHoc product and services through development, implementation and ongoing operations. This role is responsible for establishing and aligning the technology strategy of the organization with product management and product development organizations, working with customers, sales, services and partners. The Sr. Director of Technology will be a key contributor in strategic planning for the immediate and long-term objectives of the organization and will provide guidance and decision making to support the ongoing operations of the organization's technology. The Sr. Director of Technology reports to the unit’s General Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the technological strategy for the organization:
Establish end-to-end system and product architecture and technology direction; outline long term strategy aligned with company, business, product and market directions.
Work closely with engineering and product management organizations to plan short and long-term roadmaps and implement technological and architectural changes.
Participate in AtHoc product strategy team, as the principal technological stakeholder.
Cooperate and collaborate with technological leadership of other divisions to align technological directions.
Monitor and research industry major technological trends; maintain awareness of leading edge technological trends in competitive and adjacent markets.
Act as the principal technological and architectural liaison with customers, sales and services:
Interact with technological leadership of key customers to learn of changing environments and needs, communicate with them on technological roadmap.
Participate and support key sales processes as the principal technological stakeholder.
Closely work with pre-sales, services and operation teams to ensure alignment of product technology, architecture and implementation supports customer and field needs.
Create and foster technological partnerships:
Identify opportunities for technological partnership in collaboration with sales, business development and product management.
Lead the technological interaction and collaboration with partners to assess and build the partnerships.
Lead Intellectual property protection:
Identify opportunities for protecting intellectual property.
Work with IP teams to file and defend.
Promote awareness of IP in product management and software engineering teams.
Represent company in Industry Associations:
Participate in relevant industry associations and standards organizations to bring our experience forward to support the industry, and our customers’ use cases and needs.
Security:
Be extremely versed and familiar with current security technologies, trends and events.
Work with the InfoSec team and the ISSO to identify security gaps in product, architecture and processes and collaborate on ways to address.
Qualifications
BSc in Computer Science, Engineering or related field; MBA or other relevant graduate degree a plus.
Minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience as a senior leader of software engineering organizations with at least 6+ years of management/strategic experience.
This leader will have rich communication and leadership skills, a vision of a highly cohesive and collaborative approach to technology development and management, and professional values that encourage quality, efficiency and creative problem solving by all.
Strong project planning and organizational abilities with history of managing complex requirements.
Strong communication skills to relay initiatives to a variety of audiences, from executive peers, customers to more junior personnel.
Must possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and be an effective listener.
