Avitas Systems is looking for a seasoned Software Director to join its Engineering leadership team. As a Software Director, you will apply your knowledge of management, software development methodologies, best practices and proven processes to deliver a quality software product on budget, with in planned schedule with superb quality.
In this role, you will:
Demonstrate very strong technical leadership and peoplemanagement skills including solid communication and analytical skills with thorough understandingof product development and successful problem definition, decomposition, estimation andresolution
Influence decision making through active partnership with crossfunctionalteams
Manage strategic business partnerships and relationships throughTechnical, Financial, Contractual and Relationship management
Own and managethe multiple rapid prototyping and product development budgets
Coach, mentor andlead a diverse group of lean/agile software and user experience engineers
Workwith product owners across the businesses to understand market needs & vision; quicklytranslate that vision into demonstrable software
Quickly define and deliver workingsoftware prototypes
Work with product owners and architects to develop multigeneration software technology plans
Work directly with customers to understandbusiness and technical needs
Drive increased efficiency across the teams,eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse
Support processimprovements which guide the development, sustaining & supportactivities
Work cross functionally with other business departments to align activitiesand deliverables
Drive world-class quality in the development and support ofproducts
Keep project data relating to tracking and financialscurrent
Deliver resource strategy and plans, including use of 3rd parties/partners,etc., in support of development and support activities
Plan and manage budgetsrelated to scope of team
Communicate effectively both within immediate team andGE leadership. Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding ofbusiness direction, strategy and results
Build a world class software developmentteam to consistently deliver complex software platforms and research projects of varying size andduration
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), or 12 years of experience in the softwaredomain.
Minimum 8 years of experience in the software domain or a Master’sDegree with 5 years of experience in the software domain.
Minimum of 3 years’experience in an engineering leadership / management role
EligibilityRequirements:
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE mayagree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage ofindividuals with particular skills
Must bewilling to travel
Must be willing to work out of an office located in San Ramon,CA or Boston, MA

Teaches XP practices to others.Actively embraces new methods and practices that increase efficiency andeffectiveness
Previous experience in software development in an agile environmentand writing code
Previous experience working in a Java web developmentenvironment
Demonstrates advanced understanding of Linux or Unix operatingsystems
Demonstrates advanced understanding of software development tools& infrastructure
Evangelizes new technology, predicts trends, and identifiesnew opportunities based on trends. Acts as industry expert by participating in defining standardsand open source initiatives
Creates a culture of customer focus and highperformance to drive innovation. Creates and pitches value for the GE investor while balancingthat with the sometimes competing value for the external customer. Continuous engagement withfocus on GE strategy for customer satisfaction
Establishes framework for a cultureof successful collaboration by defining a common understandingof who has decision rights and accountability, and how collaboration and transparency arerewarded
Establishes vision, Identifies and champions internal/external bestpractices, tools, and ideas to improve execution and quality. Drives an organization of efficiency,accountability and ownership
Additional leadership experience in areas ofoperations, manufacturing and quality preferred
Uses critical thinking skills anddisciplined approaches to help leaders and leadership teams resolve issues and define solutions.Evangelizes and contributes to the GE standards for critical thinking best practices andmethodologies across the enterprise. Defines new critical thinking methods. Engages withexternal thought-leaders and communities on analytical and critical thinkingmethodologies
