Peru Director The Nature Conservancy Lima

The Peru Director oversees all aspects of a significant program area encompassing a large, complex geography. Provides strategic leadership and support for the Conservancy’s conservation planning work and establishes overall conservation priorities for one or more divisions or major initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Peru Director is the overall responsible for implementation of The Nature Conservancy’s conservation efforts in Peru. Facilitates and oversees TNC´s conservation, policy, fundraising and team-building. In coordination with Colombia Director coordinates the shared services (science, marketing & communication) for Peru. He/she will contact to government agencies, multilateral organizations, companies and other conservation organizations, foundations and the academic community in Peru.
He/she will work with the LAR’s regional programs like Freshwater, Lands, Infrastructure, Marine and others, to implement a specific, actionable business plan to contribute to LAR’s goals according with the Shared Conservation Agenda. Ensure that the shared services teams provide support to Peru in coordination with Colombia Director.
He/she will coordinate with Conservancy’s Global Priorities groups to ensure that our work is adequately leveraged and represented in international policy and donor events. He/she will coordinate with the Center of Excellence of Development the donor engaging for Peru. He/she negotiates or supports the negotiation of complex and innovative solutions with government agencies, companies and major institutions related to conservation in coordination with Conservation leadership staff.
He/she will work with key Conservancy staff to coordinate, integrate and promote the Conservancy’s diverse projects helping the organization leverage its field successes into new policy and corporate engagement tools that dramatically increase the scale of our influence and result in significant and measurable conservation results.
He/she will coordinate marketing and communication strategies for Peru (in coordination with Colombia Director) ensuring the aligning with LAR Marketing department.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

• Facilitate the development and implementation of cutting-edge conservation strategies for Peru to address challenges related to freshwater conservation, sustainable food production, deforestation and climate change, infrastructure development and preserving oceans, in coordination with Conservation leadership staff.
• Structures key impact and key performance indicators for Conservation strategies in close collaboration with the science team and Conservation leadership staff. Ensures alignment of indicators with LAR and LACC key indicators.
• Supervision of Conservation and Science teams, policy strategy, marketing & communication and Science Senior advisor, ensuring team work and the effective provision of support services in Peru (in coordination with Colombia Director) while achieving Shared Conservation goals.
• Work with the Conservancy’s Regional Leadership Team to develop and lead strategies to engage major international agencies, corporations and foundations that work on conservation issues in Peru to mitigate negative impacts on biodiversity conservation and environmental services provisions.
• Identify and cultivate high leverage partnerships around conservation goals in coordination with Conservation leadership staff.
• In coordination with the Center of Excellence of Development she/he will manage key partners and donors, and raising funds to implement the program’s strategy.
• In the first 6 months after hire, he/she will spend 80% of the time understanding the organization, strategies and internally management.
• Lead efforts to improve coordination, communication and planning across Conservation Programs in Peru. Is responsible for the overall reporting of progress for Peru coordinating the flow of information from the team.
• Serve as a focal point for Latin America and Global engagement with internal and external parties to integrate Conservancy activities related to Peru and ensure an adaptive, locally appropriate, coherent, unified approach commensurate with the potential threat in coordination with Conservation leadership staff.
• Manage and work directly with the Conservancy’s Trustee Advisory Councils for Peru to maximize their participation and contributions to the operating unit’s conservation, fundraising and policy efforts.
• Coordinates with Colombia Director the marketing and communication services provided to Peru in order to ensure consistency and good results.
• Responsible for managing Peru budget and finance sustainability, ensuring the aligning and compliance with finance procedures and regulations, working closely with Finance and Operation Manager.
• S/he will be responsible for performance management, training and career development of her/his team.
• Requires frequent travel domestically and/or internationally, including evening and weekend hours.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Management experience including leading and managing a large multi-disciplinary team.
• Written and verbal fluency in English and Spanish is required.
• Experience demonstrating communication and presentation skills required.
• Experience designing, implementing, and directing complex or multiple projects of strategic importance, including managing finances, supervising multidisciplinary professionals and coordinating the work of partners while meeting deadlines.
• Experience working with current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and geographic regions, especially Peru.
• Experience communicating with and presenting to diverse audiences including donors, board members, employees, outside partners, or equivalent.
• Experience developing partnerships (partners, community, government).
• Experience demonstrating networking skills with high level conservation contacts.
• Experience working with methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives.
• Experience conceiving and implementing strategic and creative initiatives.
• Experience with negotiation.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Multi- lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
• Master’s degree in conservation, nature sciences or a related field.
• Demonstrated leadership and visionary qualities and ability to work effectively with and through others in a decentralized and geographically dispersed organization.
• Extensive management experience including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, and manage performance of a large multi-disciplinary team.
• Success as an inspirational leader who has successfully motivated staff to achieve and sustain excellence.
• Well organized and self-directed; politically savvy and a team player.
• Successful experience in partnership development (partners, community, government, etc) including extensive networking with high-level conservation, business, and/or government contacts; political savvy.
• Experience in fundraising.
