Handles all aspects of the storyboard and timing processes. Manages a team of storyboard artists, revisionists, and animatic editors to ensure alignment of the style, vision and creative ambitions required for the boards within each episode and throughout the series.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Across all aspects of the storyboard process, ensure that the scope of work creatively aligns with the style and ambitions for each episode.
Responsible for reading the script and collaborating with the Supervising Producer to discuss creative ambitions for each episode. Ensure alignment before distributing storyboard handouts.
Work closely with each member of the storyboard team to discuss assignments. Be available for questions and to monitor progress. Discuss timelines and deliverables on a regular basis and ensure quality and continuity of submissions across the team.
Provide status updates, discuss concerns, and review potential changes with appropriate production staff on a regular basis.
Work with story artists to fine tune or punch up storyboard and/or animatics as needed.
Participate in all storyboard pitches including pitching the boards when necessary. Provide notes and ensure clarity as questions arise. Ensure notes are disseminated appropriately.
Weigh in on animatics at all stages including animatic pitches. Ensure style and vision for the show is maintained consistently. Oversee revisions and provide notes ongoing.
Work with team to ensure show management guidelines including naming conventions are followed.
Evaluate the continuity and quality of all storyboards and ensure it is maintained across the team. Provide feedback to artists to ensure characters stay on model, that the reuse library is appropriately leveraged and that the accuracy of revisions is seen through to completion of task before sending the storyboards to the animatics department.
Will participate in the interviewing process as well as review portfolios and tests. Responsible for helping in recruitment process of both in house and freelance storyboard artists.
Qualifications/Requirements
Must have storyboard directing and drawing experience.
Ability to work in fast-paced environment is essential.
Desired Characteristics
2-3 years’ experience as a storyboard director and at least 5 years work as a television animation storyboard artist or equivalent combination of education and experience.
BA/BS in Fine Arts preferred.
Ability to quickly align with style of show.
Strong background in staging, composition.
Able to come up to speed quickly on hardware and software including knowledge of the Cintiq tablet, Photoshop, Painter or Sketchbook Pro.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Proven ability to consistently meet deadlines and keep team on schedule.
