As Director of Data at Earnest, you will have a unique role. You will bring together state of the art modeling and state of the art engineering. This means everything from designing new engineering solutions to model deployment, honing how engineers and modelers work together, selling data solutions to stakeholders internally and externally, and identifying key business needs, and driving cross functional solutions.
Data Focused: Earnest is driven by data. We collect over 100,000 different data points from our clients. Using this data we service our customers with a full understanding of their financial potential and background. The depth of data at Earnest gives our models endless opportunity to improve our existing models and create new ones. It also requires software built specifically for rapid/continuous deployment, ensure model consistency, and interact with internal and external systems.

Evolving and honing the framework for developing models as a service
Evolving the organizational structure of the team as we grow
Managing the creation of a sustainable architectural plan for the Services produced by the data team
Ensuring that the modelers are leveling up their engineering skills and engineers on the team are leveling up their data modeling skills
Ideal backgrounds and expertise:

Extensive experience managing Modelers, Engineers, and Data Engineers: a desire to hire, develop, and guide the team.
A vision for how data modeling and data engineering work is done and a track record of executing on that vision.
A desire to engage actively and continuously with stakeholders throughout the business.
A data and engineering technologist, for example
Experience with server-side concepts, e.g. microservices, databases, caching, performance, monitoring, API design, TDD, AWS serverless technologies (Lambda, Kinesis, API Gateway), Docker, and functional programming
Experience with modeling techniques (regression based models, tree based models, neural nets, etc.)
Familiarity with experimental testing
Familiarity or experience with Scala, Python, R
Work with databases such as PostgreSQL and Redshift
Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery frameworks
Understanding of Agile/Lean/Kanban practices
