The Legal Director of the G&LF commercial unit is responsible for the development and implementation of PepsiCo's legal, regulatory and compliance & program for the business, which operates in a complex region through company-owned, distributorships and franchisee networks. This position reports directly to the Middle East and North Africa ("MENA") General Counsel, based in Dubai. You will also have a dotted reporting line to the General Manager. You will be a key member of business' leadership time, providing strategic counsel to the General Manager and other functional leaders. Core responsibilities are to:
Negotiate, draft and implement a wide variety of supply, services and distribution agreements
Monitor the regulatory environment , assess impact on the business and advise the business in a timely manner (ideally with solutions)
Promote, monitor and enforce PepsiCo policies
Partner with the leadership team on a wide range of operational and strategic issues
You must be able to articulate both the business benefit and the potential legal/business/reputational risk to your stakeholders and must be able to effectively influence these and other senior leaders.
You will also be responsible for mitigating legal and reputational risk to the business by partnering with the Region General Counsel to design and implement an effective programs across a wide spectrum of topics.
You will use your experience and expertise to identify opportunities to enhance the law department's deliverables by promoting, through training and coordination of senior leadership messaging, a culture that is committed to high integrity performance amidst financial pressure to perform.
You will have one direct report in the business and will be responsible to the continuing career development of this individual. You will also be expected to partake in PepsiCo MENA-wide law department initiatives that are not necessarily focused on the business alone. You will be one of four members of the MENA General Counsel's legal leadership team. The General Counsel oversees a total of 20 lawyers in MENA.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Western qualified lawyer (either at degree or post-graduate level)
Minimum of 8-10 years of legal experience, ideally with some time spent with a well respected Western law firm.
Proven track record as a commercial lawyer in the region.
The position requires a high commitment on integrity performance being critical that individual possess the internal fortitude and courage to establish and enforce PepsiCo's standards for highly ethical individual conduct.
Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with senior executives and cross-functional set of colleagues within PepsiCo.
Total team player with strong collaboration skills across all levels of employees
Inherent leadership skills and ability to inspire confidence and effectiveness in the function and program against a constant in-flow of issues, high exposure on errors, and limited resources.
Demonstration of a 'can-do' attitude and willingness to be flexible and take on challenges at busy times.
Excellent English language skills essential (additional Arabic abilities highly preferred).
Ability to travel 15% of the time.
