An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Pfizer Consulting & Execution as a Senior Director with a focus on Research and Development. This unique role is critical for leading our R&D consulting engagements which range from strategy, R&D productivity and innovation within the R&D space. You will be expected to challenge the status quo, navigate complexity and ambiguity and lead a team to drive impact across a global team. You’ll work closely with the Vice President of the group and senior R&D leaders in addition to being a main point of contact for global R&D leaders. You’ll leverage high learning agility and industry knowledge to drive strategic thinking while partnering with our clients.
Lead High Impact Engagements
The Senior Director uses management consulting skills, R&D knowledge, innovation frameworks, processes skills, change management and continuous improvement methodologies, measurements & tools to analyze issues, develop and implement strategies and solutions to complex problems within our R&D organizations. Typical projects include leading organizational transformation, building new capabilities, materially improving R&D productivity, shaping and leveraging new technologies (e.g. artificial intelligence, digital, etc.) to advance how our R&D organizations operate. The colleague will need to develop strong relationships with senior R&D leaders, including executive leadership team members, across multiple organizations and work across those leaders to prioritize projects to maximize impact.
Thought Partnership in R&D
The Senior Director will keep a pulse of advancements and trends within the industry, including contract research organizations, to bring strategic ideas and thought partnership to our R&D leaders. This external perspective and understanding of various types of benchmarks will aid in strategic discussions about how to advance R&D at Pfizer, and enable the senior director to identify and bring concrete opportunities for our senior R&D leaders to consider.
Team Management and Talent Greenhouse
The Senior Director will be a member of the PCE leadership team which is collectively responsible for managing the organization. This will involve providing leadership for key internal initiatives and participating in divisional-level initiatives across the Strategy and Commercial Operations (StratCO) division. In addition, the Senior Director will play a key role in identify and develop talent to further enabling PCE to be a talent feeder to the rest of the larger organization. This will include mentoring, coaching and aiding in developing and delivering consulting training which is a responsibility of all leadership team members. In addition, the senior director will be lead a team of 3-5 people and projects teams of varying sizes.
The Sr. Director will need to be highly proactive, work collaboratively with other groups, have strong attention to detail along with written, verbal and listening skills, presentation skills, teaming, facilitation and relationship building skills. Also the colleague will need to have a demonstrated understanding of the business.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree required; PhD and MBA degree preferred.
7-10 years R&D experience in-house at a pharmaceutical firm.
A minimum of 10 years management consulting experience, either internally or in external consulting organizations, with a primary focus on life sciences R&D.
Prior position at a global external consulting firm desirable
R&D experience either in research or clinical development
Demonstrated strength in managing multiple projects and/or programs (i.e., collection of sub-projects) and business analysis.
Extensive experience with aligning stakeholders, facilitating conflict, and communicating information in a way that enables leaders to have transparency on the underlying issues and potential solutions in varying settings including workshops, small group sessions or one-on-one meetings.
Able to interact, partner and provide thought leadership for executives with comfort and ease.
Experience managing projects within matrixed organizations
Strong business sense and high degree of learning agility
Experience with consulting methodologies and frameworks including strategy, analysis, expertise in operating models, governance, visual storyboarding methodologies, change management and process re-engineering
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills including ability to maintain productive dialogue and pushing back on senior management as appropriate
Excellent oral and written communications capabilities
Strong presentation and facilitation skills
Basic understanding of finance and budgeting
Must be able to manage large teams across multiple functions and have a working knowledge of each function
Fluent with technology solutions to manage projects including appropriate Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio) and also SharePoint
Must be fluent in English
