In this role, you will hire and lead multiple database software development teams responsible for rethinking the assumptions behind how traditional database services were built and thinking how to build database services best suited for the cloud. You will own the design, product definition, development, testing, deployment, and operations for your service. You will draw from your deep and broad technical expertise to mentor engineers, complete hands-on technical work and provide leadership on complex technical issues. You will manage and be responsible for delivering some of our most strategic technical projects, deliver large scalable systems, design new software systems at the cutting edge of distributed database technology and have a significant bottom-line impact on our business and competitive position.

As a Director of Engineering, you will be part of the larger technical and product leadership community at Amazon. This community forms the backbone of the company, plays a critical role in the broad business planning, working closely with senior executives to develop business targets and resource requirements, influences our long-term technical and business strategy, helps us hire talented teams and ultimately enables us to deliver innovative new solutions rapidly.

Basic Qualifications

· Bachelors in Computer Science or Engineering
· Minimum of 15 years of experience, 7+years of which must be in engineering management position
· If no degree then requires an additional 4 years of experience, 3 of which must be in developing software.
Preferred Qualifications

· Masters or PhD in Computer Science with a minimum of 15 years of relevant software development and engineering management experience.
· Experience with database systems kernel development or engineering large scale distributed systems is strongly preferred.
