The Director of Equity Investment Strategy is responsible for leading the Core Strategy as it relates to the investment approach and research process of Equity Allocation. The Director of Equity Investment Strategy will liaison with the Franklin Templeton Research and Strategy Teams and will have responsibility for setting the Core Strategy investment process. This requires developing and articulating investment strategy and thought leadership in collaboration with other investment leaders and providing policy guidance and direction for portfolio managers. The role of Director of Equity Investment Strategy focuses primarily on Equity, but also expands to macro views and input on asset allocation and other asset classes. Responsibilities involve monitoring of global macro events and assessing the implications on global financial markets. The role requires managing and leading investment staff to conduct research, assess information, establish views on equities broadly and on sector, industry and securities specifically to determine appropriate actions to take to achieve strong risk-adjusted investment results. The role requires strong analytical skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills.
Equity Investment Strategy Leadership:
Responsible for the development and implementation of Core Investment Strategy for the firm relating to Equity Allocation. It requires the monitoring of global macro events and assessing the implications on global financial markets. Responsible for the determination of absolute and relative valuations of equities. Responsible for the integration of both global macro and market valuation into a well-defined investment view, rationale, strategy and portfolio construction applied across a diverse client base and communicated internally to investment professionals at the firm and externally to clients. Responsible for managing the investment and research process. Researching, developing, and articulating the firm's equity markets and investment strategy.
Oversight and Policies:
Serve as the “champion” making sure that clients, prospects, and internal colleagues have knowledge of, and access to, the full suite of investment capabilities at FTCI. Lead effort within investment department to service the investment needs of colleagues outside the department. Review, at a high level, the managed portfolios ensuring that positioning is consistent with policy set by the individual in the role. Establish firm-level investment policy across all facets of portfolio construction.
Communication and Marketing:
Responsible for creating thought leadership content on equity markets and strategy, as well as engaging in public relations and media opportunities. Liaise with marketing to develop materials for the firm’s overall capabilities, philosophy and approach generally, and investment strategy approach specifically. Create materials which can be leveraged and standardized for client presentations. Carry out research, conduct projects and author papers to produce relative and directional developed and emerging markets, sector and thematic views for inclusion in periodic research publications and interface with the media as well as our largest clients. Respond effectively to research requests and questions from internal partners and external clients
Asset and Risk Management:
Evaluate market conditions and provide insight regarding new developments in investment exposures. Examples should include new derivatives, open and closed end vehicles, ETF’s, and individual bonds. Assess risk across global and develop processes to identify those risks across client portfolios. Provide firm-level assessment of those risks and communicate measures that should be taken to manage and mitigate them. Contribute actively to the portfolio construction process and provide insight on security and sector level execution for the team.
Capital Market Conditions:
Assess current market conditions and communicate market dynamics to internal and external clients frequently. Identify market trends and drivers of market performance. Provide various market driven scenario analysis to better understand the return profile of our investment policy decisions. Provide thorough analysis of global central bank policy and communicate future outlook and implications for capital markets.
Portfolio Positioning:
Develop model portfolios that show long-term strategic sector weights with current tactical positioning consistent with policy themes. Identify the specific portfolio characteristics that reflect policy decisions from a risk/return perspective.
Reporting:
Maintain and report on risk management oversight of asset classes and strategies. Monitor and assist in measuring and reporting the performance. Analyze the risks into relevant factors and sources such as sensitivity analysis, stress testing, scenario analysis, value at risk, and risk budgeting. Provide quarterly and ad-hoc reporting and marketing materials for client reviews and business development opportunities. Provide quantitative support to the asset allocation committee function.
Other:
Serve as senior level member of the investment team participating in business development and strategic client presentations. Serve on other senior level FTCI committees potentially including executive, operations and risk functions. Produce content driven pieces on topical issues in the market place. Drive product development effort where appropriate, interpreting client needs with market opportunities and creating value added structures for portfolios
QUALIFICATIONS
Other Requirements:
Requires a bachelor's degree. CFA, MBA, or equivalent preferred.
At least 8-10 years investment of finance experience required
Minimum of 5 years of equity strategy experience required
Familiar with the High Net Worth Client Profile and objectives as well as trading, marketing, and research functions.
Complete knowledge of the investment industry along with ability to analyze, interpret and present statistics in both written and oral presentations.
Leadership and/or management experience in financial services industry.
