This role will report to the chief executive officer and is focused on the external strategic, tactical and creative activities relevant to sponsorship and marketing. The ideal candidate is a passionate and creative visionary, fundraiser and team motivator to ensure the long-term sustainability of WIHS. Key responsibilities include: bringing in and maintaining major corporate and personal sponsorships, drawing top national and international competitors, and driving ticket sales and spectator engagement with creative and innovative marketing and PR.
Duties include:
Develop and implement a marketing and sponsorship development strategy as part of a larger strategic growth initiative for the show. The program should include both short and long term goals, ideas to grow the demand and relevancy for the event for both exhibitors and spectators
Personal and corporate sponsor focus with fundraising sourced equally from board, personal and corporate sponsors
Serve as marketing & sponsor liaison and key point of contact for board members.
Team effectively and in an integrated and collaborative manner with your direct reports and peers at the show. Board members as well.
Continue to innovate and build the event schedule, marketing and entertainment value of the show including video, lighting, broadcast production and exhibitions while maintaining the heritage, quality and prestige of the event
Maximize ticket sales with a focused strategy (Barn Night, group sales – girl scouts, active seniors)
Manage external relationships: equestrian and mainstream public relations and marketing agencies, media partners, community partners
Proactively source sponsors, develop strong presentations and creative partnership proposals
Develop and implement a long-term multi-year stewardship strategy focusing on high-end sponsorships, new markets (west coast) and key corporate and personal partners
Fundraising through events – effectively work with the board to establish committees and leverage connections/ relationships.
Engage with and refine charitable tie-ins to engage the community and build good will.

Three night events – Charitable Parties
Prepare board reports and pitch presentations for board meetings and client presentations
Manage the sponsorship and marketing strategies, budgeting, and business planning
Develop a strategy for marketing and sponsorships, include key processes and structure
Ensure all sponsors are satisfied and fulfillment responsibilities are achieved
Establishing a permanent market presence in DC through partnerships like BrandLink
Execute marketing plans with excellence and demonstrate an ability to keep up with current trends and improvements in marketing tools, social media and media effectiveness.
Core Competencies:
The ideal candidate is a relationship person and enjoys selling/fundraising
Understanding of the hunter/jumper horse show circuit
Ability to lead through positive collaboration and partnership with chief operating officer, show manager, board leadership and key external and internal partners
Leader must enjoy networking, have engaging personal presence to interact with all constituents from press to government representatives, office team, external partners and top athletes, trainers, exhibitors.
Ideally individual is regularly attending competitions throughout the year.

Possess skills to motivate and, most importantly, to develop full-time internal staff and extended team making individuals at all levels feel highly valued
Be a creative problem-solver and innovator who can look at challenges and find new ways to raise money, bring in supporters and further develop the show’s performance, team culture and bottom line for the future
Have a positive outlook and attitude and perform well under stress with hands-on event and production experience
Attention to detail without being a micro manager
Hands-on creative production experience is a plus
