Edelman Intelligence is seeking a senior leader to coordinate, develop, and market its operations and services in the United States Region. An integrated research & analytics consultancy, Edelman Intelligence is an autonomous and global business within Edelman.
The US Region is the largest operation of Edelman Intelligence globally, both in terms of team size and revenue.
The Deputy MD will report into the Global MD of Edelman Intelligence, and be his/her primary relay for all matters related to the US-wide strategic initiatives and business development. He/she will operate in close partnership with the Edelman US leadership team.
The 4 core offices currently operating in the US are: NYC, Chicago, DC, and the West-Coast, and are each led by strong senior leaders who are closely connected to their respective Edelman partners (Regional Presidents). The role of the Deputy MD will be primarily to create, foster, and facilitate the synergies, collaboration, and the efficiency gains across the region so there we are operating with optimal consistency, quality, and scale across the US.
Additionally, the Deputy MD will spear-head the effort to improve and enhance the partnership of EI with the senior leadership team from Edelman in the US. This includes the full spectrum of geographies, Sectors, Practices, and Crafts. As such, he/she will develop and market the offering and capabilities of Edelman Intelligence in full alignment with the current and potential needs from the Edelman client portfolio.
The Deputy MD will also drive the US new business strategy nation-wide, and will seek to develop and grow the footprint of EI across the country by leading marquee client opportunities and service. This will include direct and indirect involvement through personal client relationship management as well as behind-the-scenes coordination and support for our offices to sell and drive new business successfully.
Finally, the Deputy MD will work in partnership with HR, Finance and Operations, and Edelman Practices and Leadership to report, analyze, and formulate regular diagnoses on the financial, business, and people performance in the region. He/she will report all findings and analysis on a regular basis to the Global MD.
Beyond the US responsibility, the Deputy MD will contribute to the development and implementation of the global vision and strategy of the company in direct partnership with the Global MD and our global team of experts. He/she will be expected to play a key role on our senior leadership team and support big-picture and strategic firm-wide initiatives.
The successful candidate will have a track record of successfully managing a client service business and have an advanced knowledge and understanding of the latest and optimal research and analytics tools and methodologies. This includes, but is not limited to: (1) primary research (e.g. opinion research, consumer segmentations, reputation and brand measurement, message development and testing), (2) secondary research (e.g. media measurement, issue detection and monitoring, media analysis, benchmarking and whitespace analysis), and (3) digital analytics (e.g. Social listening, owned media analytics, content performance analytics, channel mix optimization, A/B testing, multi-channel engagement tracking, etc.). He/she will have a strong interest in earned-centric marketing and PR, and expertise of other categories within the marketing industry can also be viewed as additive to this foundational expertise, especially as it may relate to audience targeting, segmentation, and ROI and measurement of effectiveness/performance.
Responsibilities
Drive collaboration, synergies, innovation, and marketing across Edelman Intelligence US Operations
Provide strategic support and counsel to office leaders in the US, especially related to the development and marketing of innovative and emerging intelligence capabilities
Ensure a level of consistency across the US region to deliver quality, consistency, and scale
Contribute to the global strategy of EI, notably on the analysis of the competitive environment, the client needs, the development of new offerings, and the agency visibility and thought leadership
Drive culture alignment with Edelman principles and values, contribute to the promotion of definition of a US-wide EI culture, identify top talent and mentor staff with emphasis on collaboration, quality output, and career development
Actively drive and coordinate a selection of strategic new business efforts – identify, prioritize, and amplify opportunities across geographies, drive the new business process for strategic opportunities
Cultivate our teams against our renewed culture and vision. Help expend the suite of capabilities and services that each office is able to deliver to the market, through education, training and mentoring management and oversight in partnership with US HR and Shell team
Monitor and forecast business performance and the costs and resources across the US in partnership with the Finance team
Be co-responsible for US revenue growth and profitability of client accounts to meet firm revenue goals
Accountable for the quality of P&L reporting and management and the alignment across the US
Participate in new business pitches and proposals in partnership with Edelman teams, including the production of audience diagnosis, market research to deliver insights and testing methodologies to inform and validate strategic and creative options
Develop strong partnerships with US practice and sector leads, establishing trust, respect, and credibility as a leader and business partner
Ensure that insights, research, and data analytics are an integral part of our client counsel and programming which includes integrating our offerings and developing a strong cohesive team
Provide strategic counsel to clients using appropriate methodologies and tools on research and analytics offerings and solving specific client business problems to deliver exceptional research that meets the client’s business needs
Qualifications
12+ years of professional experience in market research, marketing, insights, analytics, strategy development, or consultation.
Track record of building successful relationships across organizations to promote the impact and value of research, analytics and insights. Experience in educating and sharing the importance of intelligence and research with colleagues and partners. Including non-expert audiences.
Appetite for Earned centric / PR driven marketing campaigns, and strong command of the fundamentals of digital social media marketing.
Strong leadership, organizational, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels using both technical and non-technical verbiage.
Ability to turn data and analysis into insights and metrics that can be actionable in the context of Communications and Marketing strategies and campaigns.
Strong knowledge of marketing, media, social, web site analysis, consumer targeting tools, and vendors, including both quantitative tracking and research methodologies.
A broad understanding of core and emerging analytics methods, approaches and statistical techniques and how they can be deployed to drive value.
Ability to provide client consulting that leverages multiple sources of insight and data.
Demonstrated ability to assess reporting and modelled results from perspective of business / operations leads and to adapt output accordingly.
Experience writing proposals, ensuring projects are profitable and managing a P&L.
Ability to get to the heart of issues quickly and act decisively while seeing the “bigger picture” and executing and communicating clear messages to the business as a whole.
MBA and/or advanced degree in marketing, social sciences, data science, business intelligence or related field of study is preferred.
People skills, accountability, innovative and entrepreneurial drive, agility, natural and positive authority are traits that ideal candidates should possess and demonstrate.
