he focus of this position is strategic purchasing, which combines high levels of technical understanding and expertise with ownership of relevant commercial issues in an international team environment. The position will work with external contacts worldwide, including both suppliers and the Volvo CE Global Purchasing Organization. The position will also work internally in close cooperation with other independent Volvo Business areas and other functions such as R&D, Quality, Manufacturing and Logistics. Develop sourcing strategies for local, regional, and/or global sourcing of key components for best supply performance (including supplier Quality, Delivery, and Cost (QDC)); Drive the Volvo Purchasing processes for supplier evaluation, selection, and monitoring for assigned commodities; Lead and mentor the Buyers in sourcing strategy deployment for the commodity area; Continuously improve the supply chain and build relationships with key suppliers of assigned commodities; Take ownership to reduce and optimize the supplier base; Actively participate on Volvo global commodity teams, including regular face to face global meetings; Lead commercial negotiations with key suppliers including implementation of full agreement packages; Achieve financial and operational KPI's and recommend business and process improvements; Secure strong cross-functional cooperation between the purchasing department and the various internal stakeholders; and Actively support continuous improvement efforts within the organization.
Requirements - Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in engineering, business, international business, supply chain management, logistics or related field and three years of experience in the job offered or three years of experience buying major commodities in the construction equipment or commercial vehicle industry. Special skills - Experience in supplier relationship management, strategic sourcing, driving change, and negotiation/contract management; driving improvements, project management, process/system management, financial knowledge, problem solving, and technical commodity knowledge (manufacturing and engineering); cost breakdown analysis; TQM, Lean and Six-Sigma management practices; working with foreign currencies, customs, and duty rates, etc.; and global sources of supply and purchasing procedures. 25% domestic and international travel required.
