As IP Operations Paralegal at Splunk, you will help the company continue to build a world-class patent portfolio that protects Splunk’s trailblazing innovations in operational intelligence, as well as support the company’s efforts to protect, manage, defend, and enforce all of its intellectual property.

In a nutshell, the person in this role will be both a patent / IP paralegal and a project manager, doing everything needed to keep a busy patent & IP group at a hyper-growth software company operating smoothly and efficiently. This role will not focus entirely on patent docketing. Rather, the person in this role will be entrepreneurial, embracing the opportunity to coordinate important IP projects and to find new ways to improve the processes of the company’s IP group.

This position will be based at the company’s headquarters in San Francisco, CA (SOMA). The successful candidate will be the fifth member of the IP team and report to the Vice President & Associate General Counsel, IP.

Required Qualifications

At least 4+ years of experience as a paralegal or legal operations manager
Entrepreneurial and creative, with the initiative to investigate new ways to improve departmental processes and to coordinate and drive complex IP projects;
Great interpersonal and follow-up skills, with the ability to work closely with and coordinate in-house counsel, outside counsel, and inventors.
Excellent organizational skills;
Excellent communication (verbal/written) skills;
Excellent research and investigation skills;
BS/BA degree or equivalent experience;
Be ready to live the mantra, “work hard, have fun, make history!”

Preferred Qualifications (will consider candidates without this experience who have the desire to learn)

Experience performing paralegal duties in support of a large patent portfolio (e.g. docketing and tracking IP assets, managing an inventor awards program, tracking annuities/maintenance fees, and generating reports regarding the status of IP assets)
Project management experience (e.g., managing workflows, deadlines, and budgets for a legal team)
Comprehensive knowledge of US and PCT patent prosecution procedures
Proficiency with USPTO e-filing and PAIR access;
Polished PowerPoint skills;
Patent or IP litigation experience;
Experience with performing trademark filings and trademark prosecution;
Experience with performing copyright filings;
Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program;
Prior inhouse experience
