Working with other members of your controllership team, finance, corporate accounting and the business community, you will lead our efforts to assess, document, test and maintain our control environment though a rigorous and disciplined approach designed to reduce risk and increase visibility into the business unit’s financial reporting processes.

The Expertise We’re Looking For
10-15 years public accounting or public/private mix
Experience in public company SOX implementation highly desirable
Extensive experience in controls assessment and documentation; ideally on initial engagements
Experience in interviewing clients and interpreting client data
The Purpose of Your Role

This position is critical to the leadership of Fidelity Institutional Asset Management’s (FIAM) Financial Controls Program and is responsible for implementing and maintaining the program throughout the FIAM and Asset Management business units and legal entities. The objectives of this program are to document and assess the processes and controls around financial reporting for the business units. This highly visible and impactful position will partner with the central Controllership team and external partners to define the scope, develop project plans and lead and execute the documentation and assessment efforts. This role will also be responsible for sustaining the program including monitoring and testing the performance of key controls, enhancing the control environment and updating documentation as necessary. This person will also have the opportunity to present approach, results and observations to finance and business leaders in the business units.

Your ability to assess controls and control environment and recommend improvements
You are comfortable interviewing subject experts and interpreting into written documents

You demonstrate critical writing skills and excellent communications skills
Your strong collaboration, influencing and communications skills
You influence groups that are not directly managed by the business unit controller
You work independently and exhibit both independent thinking and good judgment
Your ability to multi-task and work under pressure and hit deadlines
Your familiarity with complex/matrixed client or corporate environments
Your financial services industry experience highly desirable
The Value You Deliver
Partnering with the Financial Controls Program team to execute program objectives
Evaluating the current and future state of the control environment and individual controls
Identifying control risks and deficiencies and recommend improvements
Developing remediation plans for control deficiencies and monitor for completion
Coordinating and collaborating with internal and external business partners
Developing an understanding of business processes and controls
Meeting with process owners and conduct interviews and walkthroughs
Preparing flowcharts, control matrices, narratives and controls testing plans of applicable financial processes
Ongoing monitoring and testing of the performance of key controls and updating of control documentation as necessary
How Your Work Impacts the Organization

Reporting to the VP of Finance, Controller of FIAM and Asset Management you will play a critical role in ensuring that the business unit’s financial controls program is successfully implemented, evaluated, maintained and updated as needed.
The position is located in Smithfield, Rhode Island but provides services to business partners in both Smithfield and Boston. As such, travel to Boston (10-20%) will be necessary.
