The New York Times seeks a Program Director to lead strategic projects and support day-to-day operations in the Data and Insights Group.

As Program Director, you will be a core member of the Data and Insights leadership team, bringing expertise in project management and operations to the definition and execution of the group’s strategy.

Ideally, you have

Experience working with data; an understanding of big data, cloud platforms and APIs. You’re excited to learn about new technologies and approaches to working with data.
A passion for leadership and a proven talent for building consensus and driving change.
The experience and wisdom to lead project teams and manage risks, and have shipped multiple complex products on time and on budget. You can take ownership of complicated efforts and mediate between competing interests and personalities to get alignment and motivate change.
Superb communication skills, including the ability to communicate between technical and non-technical contributors, and between project teams and senior leadership.
Job Responsibilities:

Work closely with Data leads to formulate team strategy, tie the strategy to roadmap activities, and ensure that the roadmap is followed and adjusted as needed.
Partner with cross-disciplinary teams and stakeholders to ensure that product goals are clearly defined and are being met. Keep projects moving in step by making sure schedules, resources, and communication are in sync.
Manage portfolio communications for key stakeholders. Ensures issues and risks are identified and handled swiftly and that key decisions are communicated appropriately.
Work closely with fellow project management colleagues to ensure that cross team issues and blockers are dealt with swiftly.
Manage and mentor team on project management, agile development and continual improvement.
Resource and capacity management; monitor program resources and budget
Champion and support agile software development practices, and tailor that process to each program and project team. Scale agile processes as necessary to promote transparency.
May act as day to day project manager on major initiatives within a program or particular business line.

Qualifications:

5+ years relevant work experience in project and program management
Experience working with Data and software development projects; an ability to learn technical concepts quickly and communicate those concepts to others
Certified Scrum Master (CSM) and knowledge of Jira, Confluence, Rally, Version One, or other equivalent project management software tools
