Sr. Director Global Unix Server Infrastructure RBC Jersey City

As the Sr. Director, Global Unix Server Infrastructure you will have complete global responsibility and accountability for the strategy and operations of the Unix environment for RBC. This includes, full decision making authority sounding the planning, operational support and delivery of Unix technologies and supporting the distributed computing environment for the enterprise. In this role you will have full accountability over staff, assets, regulatory requirements, and professional service management in multiple regions across the globe.

You will not only be fully accountable for the Unix estate within RBC’s Technology & Operations, but will be expected to contribute as a member of the Global Distributed Computing & Cloud leadership team. In addition to being a leadership position with full accountability for the Unix environment across the globe, you will guide, influence, and execute on transformational and strategic initiatives that impact Global Technology Infrastructure and its business partners.

What will you do?
Overarching Management of Unix Infrastructure from strategy, design, document, plan, deploy, Implement, operationalize, capacity and lifecycle management of all hardware and software supporting Unix Server Infrastructure across the enterprise for all lines of business.
Develop and establish global framework for teams to operate within; encompassing all business lines.
Management of Unix and Support teams, and Delivery Services (life-cycle)
Manage and define Unix technologies implementation standards Unix Server Infrastructure for P&CB and globally for Capital Markets, Wealth Management, Investor and Treasury Services.
Provide leadership and guidance in managing and coordinating the introduction of new installations and maintenance to server systems, technologies, and associated operating system
Strategically design, document, plan and implement global physical infrastructure components and assure failover and high availability
Provide supporting definitions for budgetary input and financial planning, resource allocation, and project management oversight Unix Server Infrastructure for P&CB and globally for Capital Markets, Wealth Management, Investor and Treasury Services
Collaborate with Hosting, Network, Storage End User Engineering teams, Global Hosting Services teams and Cloud and DevOps on strategy design of the Global Distributed Computing environment how it should operate in the future.
Vendor and Relationship Management
Develop and manage vendor relationship s for product roadmaps, emerging server technologies. Drive negotiations and manage estate and overall cost pools for HW / SW / Licenses that support bottom line results for GTI in upwards of $100MM in annual spend.
Collaborate with peers within the Global Distributed Computing team ( Capital Markets, Wealth Management, Investor and Treasury Services) to ensure the virtual and physical server infrastructure is strategically positioned within the enterprise (i.e. Systems Management, Hardware, Asset Management, audit compliance, etc.)
Regulatory and Compliance Monitoring
Ensure SOX, Regulatory and Audit compliance Unix Server Infrastructure for P&CB and globally for Capital Markets, Wealth Management, Investor and Treasury Services.
Enable the T&O agenda of “Change the Bank” by building capabilities to run IT like a business with respect to the Unix (and overall Distributed Computing) domains.
Oversee an annual budget of over $50MM NIE (including ~100MM in Capital) and over 100 FTE situated around the globe.
Areas of focus:
Provide support RBC’s Data Centre strategies
Development of global Unix / distributed computing strategies, a major driver of cost innovation at RBC;
Support RBC’s Data Centre program / migration / management efforts
Host Delivery Services (life-cycle management) to ensure the safety and soundness as well as cost effectiveness of the Global Unix Infrastructure
Define, develop, and lead opportunities for service level and cost optimization (deploying Lean-Six-Sigma or similar approaches) to improve the operational environment and delivery of infrastructure services to GTI’s clients.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have
10+ years architecting and building solutions leveraging Cloud technologies, DevOps environments, and/or Distributed Computing Infrastructure
Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent)
Experience delivering / managing IT services
Excellent blend of technology and business skills.
Proven ability to lead and mentor staff
Extensive experience automating and provisioning infrastructure
Team player with the desire to own projects and the ability to work with minimal guidance in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated experience in managing operations and projects with multiple models of deliver
