Senior Manager - Operations Benchmarking - Amazon - Seattle

Amazon is seeking a motivated and data-driven Senior Manager, a hands-on scientist with leadership, analytical and communicational capabilities, and with the passion and skills to dive-deep into processes used in our fulfillment center (FC) operations network to join our Operations (Ops) Benchmarking team.
What we do: Our team benchmarks Amazon’s fulfillment practices against best-in-class internal operations to deliver process standards and cost structure improvements for network adoption. We focus on diving deep into processes that impact Fulfillment Center (FC) operations, including transportation and supply chain processes.
This is a high visibility opportunity to improve and define the best way of doing things throughout the company using the power of your analysis and business acumen.
You will be responsible for identifying, prioritizing and narrowly scoping programs with key business partners, and for developing accurate and relevant metric-driven analyses that ‘follow the money’ and support our goal to operate one way globally.
Key Job Responsibilities
This position is based out of Seattle and will plan and execute end-to-end operational analysis programs that result in standardization of business processes and implementation of best practices.
Leading a small team of Program Managers and Business Analysts you will benchmark Amazon’s fulfillment practices against best-in-class operations to drive standardization of fulfillment and business practices. Responsibilities include road-mapping, program scoping, data collection, field work and site visits, data analysis, recommendations, communication of results to senior management worldwide, business action follow-up, and subject matter expert (SME) support for implementation of recommended improvements. You will be fully engaged and dive deep into the processes we benchmark, highlight variation and identify corresponding root causes to define “best in class” for network standardization. You will conduct operational, financial, strategic and qualitative analysis utilizing financial modeling, statistical analysis, data mining and data analysis involving large data sets to support and improve business operations. You will partner with senior business leaders across the company in developing and prioritizing programs and communicating/following-up on actionable findings. As an integer part of the business you will work cross-functionally and coordinate with operational experts and owners in Operations, Ops Finance and various improvement teams.
Your passion to dive deep into processes and data for driving FC operations improvements that enhance our retail customer experience will be your path to success in this role. As the Senior Manager, Ops Benchmarking, you must be a hands-on scientist with excellent communication skills (written and verbal English), who can articulate study results and liaise with all levels of management including senior leadership. Your strong leadership of a small team of business analysts and program managers will ensure we deliver high quality programs against agreed commitments.

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other technical field from an accredited university or 4+ years Amazon experience
Minimum 9+ years of relevant experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis
Ability to travel up to 50%.
Previous experience in Benchmarking Supply Chain, Finance, Technology and/or Human Resources.
2+ years of experience analyzing cost/benefit of proposed projects
Operations Mgmt or process improvement background in fast-paced environment
Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills paired with hands-on attitude, excellent attention to detail, and good business judgment.
Experience performing data mining and working with data analysis involving business metrics by utilizing Oracle SQL, MYSQL or related data querying analysis tools
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel is required, including use of lookups and pivot tables
Excellent verbal and written English language communication skills (including experience reviewing results with senior management and working in a global team setting).
Experience developing tools, reports, scorecards, and data visualizations that improve upon those currently employed for understanding the business and making decisions
Experience conducting statistical, financial, strategic and operational analysis and modeling involving large data sets to: support and improve business operations; implement best practices; and conduct cost benefit analysis
Proven history of having worked across cross functional teams and functions.
Strong track record of problem solving, improving performance and processes (through best practice adoption, benchmarking, lean six sigma methodologies etc.) with the ability to problem solve independently
Advanced degree (e.g., MBA) and work experience in technical field is highly desired.
Prior experience or use of Lean/Six Sigma
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of SQL, Perl, Unix/Linux, Visual Basic or other programming languages are a plus
Self-starter, possess flexibility to work in a fast-changing environment and ambiguous situations.
Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
A passion for customer experience combined with business curiosity and a strategic viewpoint.
Diverse work experience/background.
Experience with supply chain and/or operations optimization programs.
Tableau or other data visualization tools
Experience measuring key operational metrics (e.g., order cycle time, ship estimate accuracy, on time and complete shipment, inventory record defect rate).
