The Sandbox Design Director will be part of the core team that defines and drives the design vision while providing a source of inspiration, leadership, design focus, and most importantly, a guiding light for the design team.
The ideal candidate possesses boundless imagination, a deep understanding of the game development process, the ability to ideate combined with the communication skills necessary to concisely direct the design efforts of the team.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Design Manager, you will work with the other team and discipline leads to define the product design vision and execute on that vision with excellence. You will help the overall direction and growth of the organization and champion the value of design among the senior leadership team.
- Deliver AAA experiences that showcase the unique values of our platforms
- Direct the tone and timber of the project with an eye towards deep & immersive gameplay, constantly engaging multiplayer, usability and core controls
- Lead game designers and external partners to deliver a unique and compelling entertainment experience
- Set clear design goals and deliverables; lead and focus efforts across the design team to ensure a cohesive experience on all platforms and services
- Anticipate threats to quality and innovation and work effectively with the team leads to mitigate
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with all development functions to ensure a best-in-industry production process and team environment
- A deep and passionate understanding for Sandbox systemic gameplay and controls and is able to work hands on as well as provide detailed feedback and direction

Requirements
- 8+ years working in a design capacity on console titles with at least 3 titles shipped in a Design Director or Lead Designer
- Experience leading a design team through all phases of development from concept to ship
- Successful experience with IP creation and/or existing IP with 3m + sales
- Proven track record for delivering both quality and innovation
- Has the strong ability to pitch ideas, strategic initiatives, and game concepts to all levels of management and leadership
- Ability to prioritize and communicate feature requests to developers and engineers based on design goals
- Ability to hold a strong design vision while remaining collaborative and open to new ideas
- A comprehensive understanding of games (especially the action/shooter genre), gameplay mechanics/systems and player psychology combined with an ability to identify, analyze and rectify game design and gameplay issues
- Experienced relationship management and communication skills with demonstrated experience in external team management and mentorship with ability to effectively handle conflict resolution
- Excellent presentation, and negotiation skills, both verbal and written
- A working knowledge of standard industry game engines, design toolsets and production pipelines
