The Director of Gap Inc. Global Technology Communications is responsible for leading the strategy and execution for all internal technology communications to Gap Inc.’s 130,000+ employees globally, as well as guiding the external technology communications strategy, in partnership with Gap Inc. Corporate Communications. Additionally this role is responsible for leading and overseeing division-wide internal communications for GapTech, Gap Inc.’s technology innovation division, which includes 3,000+ GapTech employees and contractors.

Our Director of Global Technology Communications needs to be a creative, organized, detail-oriented communicator with big ideas, business savvy, and a passion for technology – both for the variety of technologies that power a global retail enterprise AND for discovering and using the latest tools to maximize the employee communication experience. You stay on the cutting edge of technology and are the first to figure out how a new piece of hardware or software will help you be more effective. You have a solid understanding of the intricacies of enterprise IT and can break down complex technology information into easy-to-understand messaging that makes sense for a diverse audience of non-technical employees.



The role will report into our Vice President of Human Resources and Communications for Technology,

Internal & External Gap Inc. Technology Communications

Creates and executes comprehensive communications strategies to roll out technology changes, upgrades, services and more to Gap Inc.’s global employee base.
Handles all CIO internal and external communications, providing executive coaching and counsel.
Responsible for developing and managing internal and external communications related to privacy and security, in partnership with Gap Inc. Corporate Communications.
Responsible for issues and crisis management, internal and external, related to technology, in partnership with Gap Inc. Corporate Communications.
Translates complex technical information into easy-to-understand communications for a non-technical audience.
Responsible for content oversight across several communications channels in support of technology goals, including email, video, social, digital signage, large-scale business meetings and more, with an eye to testing and trying new ways of storytelling.
Oversees vetting of external speaking engagements and prepares speakers for both internal and external events.
Builds and maintains strong working relationships with Gap Inc. partners, including business leaders, Corporate Communications, and brand, function and field Communications.



GapTech Employee Engagement

Oversees the execution of employee engagement strategies and communications, including content development
Guides the strategy and execution of GapTech All Hands and other employee and leadership gatherings and events
Oversees day-to-day communications within the technology organization, ensuring technology employees and contractors have the information they need to do their jobs effectively and stay connected to the larger Gap Inc. organizations.

Functional/Technical Skills
Superb knowledge of technology and the tech industry.

Minimum Educational Level:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field.

Minimum Experience:
10+ years experience in a communications environment, gaining progressively more responsibility over time. Mix of agency and in-house experience is ideal, but some in-house experience is required.

Experience with multiple functions within corporate communications (e.g., media relations, internal communications, public affairs, executive coaching, digital/social media, etc.).

Experience directly managing teams and individuals.
