The Risk Product Development teams are focused on building products and innovation across Account Provisioning, Buyer Risk, Seller Risk, Fraud Prevention through models, governance of policies through rules engines, and building a platform that exposes thousands of variables using open source technologies like Kafka, Storm, Hadoop, etc. You will lead multiple Agile teams located in San Jose, CA and Bangalore, India that report into this position, while driving engineering excellence of Risk Product Development strategic technical initiatives, such as: • developing solutions that help verify our customers at the time of registration, detect and prevent fraud and allow policy makers and rule writers to develop/deploy rules that help maintain a Safe and Trusted Marketplace • streamline and enhance two Rules engines that execute thousands of rules, billion+ times a day • extract, transform and load peta-bytes of data • strategize and initiate internal integrations with other application teams and external integrations with data vendors • build world class monitoring and troubleshooting tools to prevent and diagnose errors and exceptions Reporting into the Head of Trust, Risk & Identity Engineering, this executive will be responsible for leading the vision, strategy and execution of the Product Development teams for Risk. This is a critical hire for the business as this candidate will lead multiple engineering teams that are focused on improving account provisioning at the time of onboarding our customers, improving our monitoring capabilities through a combination of machine learning and statistical models to detect fraud and improving the accuracy of the actions. This leader will drive innovation in building a robust Risk Platform using near real time and Hadoop based solutions, while working cross functionally with Product and Business teams to plan, prioritize and execute on the roadmap and making strides towards the long term vision of the Risk Platform. You will need to bring your considerable leadership expertise to mentor, coach and retain a talented, passionate and high performing team, while applying best in class principles to attract and recruit top talent.

Job Requirements:

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide leadership and technical direction to the global Risk Product Development team.
• Work collaboratively with Product & Business in prioritizing and executing on the roadmap.
• Build a world class Risk Platform that enables development and deployment of machine learning models.
• Refine and set the vision for the overall architecture plan and application of best practice architecture, design patterns and ongoing simplification of the system landscape.
• Foster a culture that continuously innovates through frequent product iterations (Agile/Scrum setup) and help the team develop their agile practices further.
• Develop, mentor and coach managers, leads and ICs.
• Hire the best leaders and experienced individual contributors to continue to build a diverse and balanced team.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership characteristics, with a background in building robust, scalable platforms preferably using Open Source technologies. She/he will bring demonstrated expertise in the field of Risk Management, along with extensive experience in Agile processes, managing multiple engineering teams, working collaboratively with Product/Business teams & evangelizing across other engineering teams. This leader will have excellent acumen in prioritizing engineering technical debt with the roadmap, while using their technical prowess and ingenuity in representing eBay’s Risk capabilities in external conferences, summits, events, etc.

15 or more years of technical leadership and track record in delivering innovative products in the relevant space
10 or more years of progressive experience in Risk Management, preferably with a background in Financial Risk Management
Demonstrated experience in creating a vision, influencing cross-functionally, and driving a large Technology organization to meet ambitious goals
Proven experience in building robust, aspirational and scalable services and platforms that drive innovation and market efficiency
Successfully operated in progressively senior leadership roles in a dynamic, global, matrix environment
S/he must be a visionary leader with deep technology expertise who can motivate diverse professionals to succeed in a highly competitive market, keeping the team focused on breakthrough, transformational strategies and tactics to best leverage the resources of a growing company. S/he must ensure that the company is forward thinking and innovating to accelerate growth

EDUCATION:

Master in CS degree (M.Sc.) or equivalent
15+ years related experience
