The Global Product Lifecycle (PLC) team operate under the leadership of the Global Product Office (GPO) and cover all lines of business and geographies where the business operates. The responsibility of the PLC team is to ensure that we evolve and implement a common approach to product investment governance, whilst focusing on customers and learners and best product development practice. To do this we advocate a combination of Agile, Lean and Lean Startup principles that underpin PLC framework. As the PLC framework is being adopted across Pearson globally, the team will need to evolve and extend the PLC with continuous feedback whist supporting the needs of each business unit.

The PLC is an embedded and sponsored by the executive leadership team right through to product development teams. This integrates global and local into product strategies, through to product development practices across over 20 enabling functions ranging from Finance to Efficacy. The PLC acts as a sensemaking framework which helps Pearson product teams focus on and include learner and customer outcomes and needs. Each distinct stage of Pearson PLC, calls upon different product development and management skills which in turn are supported by iterative funding and governance cycles.

Scope:

Working as part of a team distributed between London and New York, and reporting into VP Global Product Lifecycle Management (PLC), you will be responsible for:

Supporting SVP Global Product Lifecycle in driving the design and rollout of the Product Lifecycle across our global lines of business, core platforms and geographies and driving change in ways of working, culture and delivering value to Pearson and customers/learners.

Supporting product teams and senior management implement standard, global product investment governance.

Leading efforts to implement and standardise PLC in priority business areas, working closely with product teams and strategy, portfolio, finance, technology and efficacy senior stakeholders.

Delivering training and coaching to teams and Product Councils across the organisation and supporting community and comms efforts of the PLC team.

Actively contributing to PLC design and further improvements.

Supporting weekly/monthly reporting cycles: demonstrating impact and collecting evidence of PLC effectiveness.

Developing external relationships and networks to leverage the latest industry trends in product strategy, development and innovation, as well as promote the work of the PLC and CPO.

Qualifications

Essential skills, qualifications and experience:

You have developed powerful interpersonal skills and are able to use these to influence outcomes by communicating with persuasiveness and candour with an engaging and energetic personality. You appreciate the diversity of stakeholder interactions and adapt your style and approach accordingly.

Global Perspective – You have significant experience operating within a truly global environment and are able to demonstrate international cultural agility.

Desirable skills, qualifications and experience:

You are experienced and have in-depth knowledge of Lean, Lean Startup and Agile product development practices in enterprises and startups.

You have previous experience of using PLC on multiple projects or running workshops.

You have a demonstrated record of driving change and influencing senior stakeholders.

You are highly experienced at running workshops and events.

You have set up or been involved with the Agile and Lean Startup communities of practice.

Must be self-motivated as well as creative and efficient in proposing solutions to complex, time-critical problems.
