This position contributes to Starbucks success by directing department-wide IT program management activities, and by leading high performing teams on program development to support projects ranging from simple platform enhancement efforts to enterprise product implementations to product upgrades. As the director, IT program management you will operate at both a strategic and a tactical level, partner closely with IT and business stakeholders, collaborate on strategic planning and forecasting, program development, project planning and execution, and program delivery. In addition, this director-level position will build and manage effective program portfolio management teams, set the direction and strategy for the program management function and drive innovation in the business of IT by improving processes, establishing key lines of communication, and bringing program management industry best practices to the table.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Leadership - Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results
Supports the implementation of company programs to ensure the success of the Company.
Establishes and evangelizes IT program portfolio and project management standards and practices.
Reviews and approves key project management deliverables for projects within the IT portfolio and related or dependent projects in other portfolios.
Planning and Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:
Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization
Plans and manages business unit and department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.
Coordinates annual strategic program portfolio planning for Global Technology.
Sets the strategy for the program management team; leads the annual operating plan and quarterly reforecasting efforts for the IT portfolio.
Directs the development of program portfolio roadmaps that illustrate in-flight and planned projects and highlight known project dependencies and synergies within and across programs.
Evaluates project proposals in the context of the IT portfolio and advises on priority, cross-portfolio dependencies, and resource capacity.
Partners with IT Audit on the audit strategy for IT projects. Reviews and approves all project audit plans.
Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
Develops an expert-level understanding of projects within the IT portfolio and their cross-program dependencies and synergies.
Develops an understanding of the project portfolios in the EMEA, China/Asia-Pacific, and Latin American regions, and aligns with key stakeholders on strategic planning.
Regularly participates in key project meetings.
Partners with IT leadership to establish a clear, repeatable IT Governance process and to continually improve waterfall, iterative, and Agile SDLC practices.
Manages an IT cost center.
Partner Development & Team Building - Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
Challenges and inspires team members to achieve business results.
Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partners, business and customer results
Advises project teams, and mentors/coaches team members.
Drives team adoption of industry and Starbucks best practices.
Builds a high performing program portfolio management team by making good hiring decisions, setting clear individual and team expectations, holding team members accountable to their commitments, removing barriers to success, and fostering career growth.

Summary of Experience
Experience as a program or portfolio manager in IT or a software development setting (5+ years)
Experience working in IT or a software development setting. (8+ years)
Experience managing direct reports, with at least three of those years in an IT or software development setting. (5+ years)
Basic Qualifications
Minimum of five years’ experience as a program or portfolio manager in IT or a software development setting; must have at least eight years overall experience working in IT or a software development setting.
Minimum of five years’ experience managing direct reports, with at least three of those years in an IT or software development setting.
Experience using Agile methods and working on complex, integrated platforms required.
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or Management preferred.
PMP, PgMP, and Scrum Master Certifications are a plus.

Strong interview and assessment skills.
Expertise in MS Project (Project Server) and at least one program portfolio management tool.
