The Director, Process Performance and Operational Excellence role will bring experience, skills, innovative thinking, maturity and capabilities to fulfill the objectives and responsibilities outlined below.

A) Leadership, Engagement and Process Performance & Optimization
- Engage, collaborate and partner with senior executives and business stakeholders across multiple business functions to understand strategic & tactical business objectives, facilitate solution formulation, drive value realization and business benefits
- Build relationships with functional leaders across the enterprise to enable cooperative achievement of common goals while driving improved process maturity
- Act in an advisory capacity to executive management on Process Excellence including development of relevant business objectives, metrics and tactics
- Drive the development and adoption of a consistent, standard process performance measurement & metrics across the company’s end-to-end processes and enable culture across the business functions using production management tools and techniques
- Work with the Executive Process Governance Board and business functional leaders (facilitate identification and prioritization) to identify key impact areas to utilize continuous improvement methodologies and manage the program/project priority process
- Partner with senior business leadership to drive adoption and institutionalization of relevant Process Excellence standards, methodologies, performance measurement concepts and best practices within business functional / operational teams
- Drive and deliver complex re-engineering and simplification / standardization / optimization of identified global cross-functional processes resulting in a significant return on investment for VMware
B) Process Excellence & Performance Culture, Community and Practice
- Develop Process Excellence Community and culture through active involvement in a variety of workshops, forums and training sessions related to Lean Six Sigma and other Process Excellence concepts and practices
- Be the change agent to help institutionalize Lean Six Sigma across the organization, constantly seeking, sharing & implementing best practices
- Strengthen continuous improvement competencies within the team and across the company by designing training curricula, facilitating trainings & workshops, coaching and providing constructive feedback to project teams
- Deliver training on process optimization concepts, Lean & Six Sigma (basic and advanced) including yellow / green and/or black belt training
- Serve as a mentor, trainer, coach, and technical leader in support of Process Excellence using process improvement methodologies; serves as an expert resource on Process Excellence methodologies, tools and techniques
C) Collaboration & Team Management
- Build, manage, lead and motivate a team of talented process excellence experts, enterprise business process architects to own and drive strategy and execution of the process excellence maturity within the company
- Partner with the Business Architecture team to connect operational strategy to execution for identification, prioritization and implementation of process/productivity improvement opportunities to deliver significant, measurable business results
- Optimize utilization of global team members in executing projects and delivering solutions
- Create and drive team development (skills, knowledge, engagement etc.) to improve the maturity of the team
- Collaborate with internal process re-engineering teams, business architects and solution architects to ensure commonality of approach, methods and tools and consistency of advice and solutions; Coach project teams on effective usage of process optimization concepts, Lean & Six Sigma and achievement of tangible business results
Qualifications
- Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt Trained/Black Belt Certified (more than 5 years as Black Belt certified) from a reputed company
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Operations / Finance / Management; MBA is desirable
Knowledge
- Strong business acumen, judgment and maturity with ability to differentiate strategic versus non-strategic opportunities and to connect continuous improvement outcomes to business value
- Expertise in process excellence / optimization disciplines / techniques including Lean / Six Sigma
- Breadth of knowledge of Lean Six Sigma tools, methodology and statistical analysis and the practical application of the same in solving business problems
- Extensive experience in, knowledge and understanding of the high technology / software industry business models and core processes
- Domain Expertise in at least 3 value streams out of the following: (1) Idea to Offering (2) Demand to Quote (3) Order to fulfillment (4) Invoice to Cash (4) Issue to resolution (5) Procure to Pay (6) Record to Report (7) Hire to Retire
Experience & Capabilities
- 15+ years of professional experience driving large, cross-functional and global process re-engineering and improvement initiatives (using lean six sigma principles and concepts) with demonstrable business results
- Directly leading high performing teams – 7+ years
- Strong facilitation and influencing skills and experience in managing senior stakeholder (VP level and up) relationship, partnership and interactions; demonstrated ability to influence at all levels in the organization
- Creativity in thinking, ideation, approach and adaptability to unique culture to an organization and a team to drive measurable impact
- Experience managing others and directing work efforts in a matrix environment to achieve objectives effectively and efficiently
- Experience working on large, global process re-engineering initiatives in large complex global organizations
- Demonstrated ability to build, maintain relationship and navigate a large global organization using formal and informal networking skills
- Proven experience mentoring and coaching individuals through smaller scale re-engineering projects focused on methodology, structure and engagement
- Experience of and confident in delivering Lean Six Sigma, kaizen or other process re-engineering training modules e.g., Lean Six Sigma Green Belt / Black Belt training
- Strong and open communicator using both verbal and written modes – shares ideas and experiences, drives engagement, actively involves people
- Experience driving change in a dynamic environment
- Experience in developing and implementing enterprise continuous improvement training programs, including designing content appropriate to different organizational roles and tailored to the specific environment
- Strong influencing and behavioral change management skills including conflict resolution and management experiences
