Regional Communications Manager, Google Fiber Google Atlanta

Job Description: • 2-minute read •
As a member of the Global Communications and Public Affairs team, you will work cross-functionally to help communicate with journalists and other thought leaders; devise specific communications materials and campaigns based on understanding of journalists' interests; engage in face-to-face meetings with commentators and other opinion formers; develop print and web-based material supporting these campaigns; and counter misinformation that might interfere with our business and ability to serve our users. We're looking for great communicators who can understand complex issues and explain them in person and also via well written, simple blog posts, FAQs, video scripts and more.
This position will be based in any Fiber office within the Southeast and Southwest region of the U.S.

Google Fiber is growing fast, working to bring abundant internet access to dozens of communities across the U.S. Today, we have subscribers in 5 metros, have committed to bring service to 6 metros (Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, Raleigh-Durham, Salt Lake City, San Antonio), and are exploring bringing Fiber to 11 more markets (Chicago, Jacksonville, Los Angeles, Oklahoma City, Tampa, Louisville, Irvine, San Diego, Phoenix, Portland, San Jose) with plans for further expansion.

As Fiber continues to grow, the Regional Communications Manager will drive our local PR programs across Fiber cities within a region. In this role, you’ll collaborate with city teams to lead all aspects of communications involved with launching and operating a gigabit Internet and TV service, building a large-scale infrastructure project, and collaborating with local partners to help make super-fast broadband more accessible and affordable in these communities.

The role requires flexibility, close collaboration with dispersed local and national teams, and creativity in finding new ways to tell the Fiber story in local markets. You’ll be leading communications for a wide range of launches, partnerships, and issues - from signups to construction disruption, local legislation such as franchise agreements, as well as community partnerships, investments in affordable housing, and more.

At Google, we're always trying to provide our users with the fastest services possible. Google Fiber works to go the very last mile, providing fiber-optic Internet connections directly to users' homes. We're building one of the fastest networks in America so that users can experience the future of broadband because we know that your Internet connection can never be too fast.

Develop proactive or creative ideas for campaigns, events and local stories on topics such as digital inclusion, economic development, and community impact. Prepare and provide media training and coaching during interviews to city leaders and product spokespeople.
Work closely with national and local leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure a consistent Fiber voice, advising on media strategy for national-level announcements that may have local impact/reaction.
Work with city teams to respond quickly to local issues (such as construction disruption or utility agreements) and nimbly manage sensitivities and impact on the community.
