Director Store Development Blue Bottle Coffee San Francisco

The Director of Store Development will shape and drive an effective and idiosyncratic strategy for the development of new and existing cafes, working closely with external real estate and construction partners and cross-functionally with our Real Estate and Store Design teams to balance the integrity and intentions of our designs with our financial and programmatic goals.
The position is based in Oakland, California, and the Director of Store Development reports directly to Blue Bottle Coffee’s COO and CFO.

You will:
Develop and execute strategies to deliver ever-more efficient and effective construction, balancing our creative vision and business goals on every project
Drive selection of general contractors and vendors and manage them closely to ensure all of our construction projects are completed on budget and on schedule (or better!)
Communicate project status and priorities with written/oral executive summaries and detailed reports to all relevant leaders and teams, helping us all stay coordinated and focused
Collaborate with Real Estate teams to negotiate leases and perform due diligence on potential new locations, ensuring that potential construction concerns are taken into account
Partner with our design team to uphold design intentions while meeting budget and thorough specifications required by city planning and building departments
Procure building, health, and other permits expediently, and develop relationships and strategies with regulatory departments so we meet building and health code requirements without losing the beauty, creativity, and design intentions for our unique spaces
Coordinate with Communications, Public Relations, and Store Operations teams to ensure proper planning and smooth openings

You have:

5+ years construction and complex project management experience, including hiring and managing general contractors/vendors with 10 or more simultaneous projects in multiple cities
2+ years experience leading construction and development of cafes or restaurants
2+ years experience leading internal development teams of project managers
Deep knowledge of interior finishes, including sourcing materials, furniture, and fixtures
Last but not least, a deep love for great coffee, food, and exceptional guest experiences
