The Open Source Product Development team is responsible for delivering eLearning services to over a thousand clients comprising almost 4 million users worldwide and includes support, administration and client liaison. A passion for technology and the desire to “do it once, do it right” underpin the culture of the team. We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented Director of Development to lead our Development teams.
Oversee our global software engineering, quality assurance and user experience teams, responsible for the development and maintenance of enterprise applications for our Moodlerooms and X-Ray business units
Manage multiple, parallel projects through solution delivery using formal project planning and budget management techniques. Make recommendations on appropriate developer tooling
Ensure the application lifecycle management and defect management processes for the team in order to drive continuous improvement for the product and ensure SLA guarantees
Work with leaders from Product Management, QA, Support, Technical Operations and Infrastructure teams to identify critical resources and roadblocks to drive critical projects to completion. Identify and remediate process improvements.
Work with senior management on identifying and managing key vendor relationships
Be accountable for the quality, stability and robustness of the product
Collaborate with the Moodle community including major updates to the core application, reporting and resolving bug fixes, and management of open source contributions
Coordinate with the Solution teams on implementing solutions that require customizations and added value services
Provide a leadership role across the various operations teams that support critical open source products and subsystems, coordinating and driving change management towards consistency in platform and processes
Work with the Blackboard Security team to ensure our solution is hardened against vulnerabilities and in compliance with security best practices and standards
Work with the Blackboard Accessibility team to ensure that that all web based products meet or exceed the WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards as well as the Section 508 standards
Assist with recruiting efforts, onboard employees, make recommendations to staffing, and lead yearly performance reviews
Professional Qualifications

Required Skills:
At least 6 years of experience in a management role
Ability to lead a geographically distributed virtual team environment
Strong understanding of LAMP stack development and management
Deep understanding of SDLC and Agile methodologies
Good analytical and problem solving skills
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
Demonstrated ability to manage a team budget
Desired Skills:
Experience in higher education market a plus
Experience in private, public, and hybrid cloud architectures
Experience architecting solutions using Amazon Web Services (AWS) products, services and tools
Experience working with international teams
Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, methods, and tools quickly to suit changing business requirements
