Instagram is seeking an experienced Manager, Consumer Communications to oversee various consumer-facing press initiatives.
The position requires a passion for the Instagram platform in general, and candidates should demonstrate an ability to build and lead scalable proactive communications programs, with tangible results, working collaboratively with product, partnerships and community teams. Excellent media and community relations, crisis communications, communications strategy, and content development skills are crucial.
In this role, this person is expected to maintain relationships with key consumer media, television producers, bloggers, and influencers and should be highly organized, energetic, and detail-oriented. The ideal candidate will also be an excellent writer, a creative thinker and be able to work cross-functionally to drive teams towards a launch or common goal.
The position is located in New York, NY with frequent travel to Menlo Park, CA (where Instagram is based).
Responsibilities
Lead proactive media programs for Instagram products and initiatives on the consumer front
Build and manage deep relationships with the media, and engage with press, bloggers, influencers, and the general public as an Instagram spokesperson
Develop press strategies around high profile and emerging events in the US and internationally
Craft engaging pitches and story ideas around consumer verticals (i.e. news, national and world moments, sports, lifestyle and photography), product launches and community initiatives
Develop and write a wide range of communications materials including blog posts, press plans, reactive statements, and briefing materials
Prepare and train spokespeople, and staff press briefings and speaking events
Counsel cross-functional partners in product, partnerships, data, community and other groups within the company on communications considerations around consumer initiatives
Collaborate with external PR agency teams to execute on consumer press initiatives
Requirements
Minimum bachelors degree in communications or related field
8+ years PR experience, agency and/or in-house preferred
Experience working with consumer print, broadcast and online media to achieve communications goals
Experience with project management, judgment, interpersonal, and decision-making skills
Experience with consumer brands and/or news or media background preferred
