The Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the company’s EH&S policies and programs that ensure the health and safety of all employees and contractors, the protection of the environment and compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensures compliance with all Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the company.
Work with teams driving improvements in the business to ensure compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety standards.
Recommend and budget for EH&S capital expenditure items.
Effectively manages EH&S programs that drive prevention and predictive behaviors.
Provides corporate oversight of company’s global EH&S and risk abaitment programs and policies.
Develops standardized, comprehensive EH&S policies, processes and performance standards across all Business Units.
Working with appropriate leaders, drives EH&S and risk identification and abaitment strategies across the company ensuring appropriate EH&S, systems and resources are in place.
Designs, plans and implements EH&S practices, policies and procedures that comply with company, federal, state, local and country safety and environmental regulatory standards.
Ensures adequate programs are in place to train managers, supervisors and employees in safe work practices and regulatory compliance.
Advises executive, senior and operations management on high risk EH&S issues and effectively works with company and business leaders in identifying solutions for preventing and resolving identified issues.
Conducts on-going data and risk analyses to trend and identify known and/or emerging EH&S risks and develops prevention strategies.
Develops, communicates and implements appropriate EH&S programs for specific job functions.
Prepares studies and analysis of accidents and incidents focusing on root cause analysis and hazards to EH&S with a focus on prevention.
Identifies and implements EH&S best practices across company operations.
Coordinates investigations of accidents, injuries and environmental incidents with local leadership and impacted employees/contractors.
Conducts routine site visits partnering with local managers on their safety programs.
Ensures compliance with labeling, storage and shipping rules applicable to various chemicals.
Prepares material for organizational use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
Represents the organization in community or industry related safety and environmental programs.
Oversees maintenance requirements of electronic safety files and incidence reports.
Reports EH&S data to all levels of management.
Oversees the establishment, implementation, and monitoring of appropriate metrics and compliance reports against which the Company can measure the effectiveness and continuous improvement of its global EH&S programs.
Ensures corporate and commercial insurance policies properly address risk and retention.
Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:

Required / Desired Knowledge, Experiences and Skills:
Knowledge of applicable global safety and environmental requirements.
Strong leadership skills with ability to influence senior management team across business units.
Must be self-directed and able to work independently.
Must have sound judgment, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and not be afraid of rolling up the sleeves to develop and deliver practical solutions.
Must be flexible and creative in developing solutions that deliver results.
Excellent communication skills – both written and oral in the form of presentations, business reports, regulatory correspondence.
Strong process management mind-set and experience deploying quality process, practices and metrics in a global multi-facility environment.
Strong knowledge of current EH&S practices, policies and global regulatory requirements.
Strong knowledge of behavioral based safety strategy and techniques.
Expertise in EH&S data management and reporting internal and external to the company.
Strong knowledge of risk abaitment strategies and solutions.
Solid foundation in OSHA & EPA regulations.
Strong background in European REACH, CLP, and BPR compliance
10+ years of direct experience in EH&S/risk abaitment; experience implementing and managing proven EH&S/risk abaitment programs and solutions in a corporate/global multi-facility environment.
Global travel and multicultural management experience.
Education/Certifications:
Candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) with 10+ years of international multi-site EH&S experience.
Strong preference given to candidates with a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Engineering or related field such as Chemical Engineering or Environmental Science.
An advanced health & safety certification (CSP) or advanced degree is highly desirable.
Physical Working Environment:

This position may travel up to 50% of the time depending on the business and/or project needs. This position will report to the Senior VP EH&S and Manufacturing.
