The Director, Resource Development, Private Funding, will identify, secure and manage substantial new and continued private funding for US Programs (USP) and will support the Resource Development Division’s efforts to raise new incremental funds for USP.
The Director will build capacity and improve processes for USP to pursue more diverse private funding streams, with a particular focus on private corporate donors, and manage a portfolio of private domestic donors. He or she will assist the Senior Director, Resource Development to raise approximately $3 million in private funding as part of a shared $10.2M goal with the SCUS Agency Resource Development department.
The Director will report to the Senior Director, Resource Development and oversee a Senior Manager of Resource Development.
Strong cross functional teamwork is required across multiple sections of the both USP and the Agency Resource Development, Policy and Advocacy, Web, Communications, branding, etc.
This position can be located in Washington DC or Fairfield Connecticut.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Impact
Meet annual goals to secure private funding, with a particular focus on corporate donors, and securing $3M in private funding (as part of the $10.2M private goal with the Agency). Identify strategic national opportunities aligned with programs and goals, consulting with program, state and finance staff. Manage the development of strategy, concepts and framework for the submission of high quality proposals to private donors. Grow a portfolio of prospects and work with them to identify a funding fit. Meet with prospects and donors to grow the business. Manage stewardship of assigned and prospective national and state donors. (50%)
Manage accounts for private domestic donors and liaise with Agency RD, primarily the Corporate Partnership team. (20%)
Create and coordinate with state leads a plan for securing state and local private funding. (20%)
Support USP RD strategic planning for business growth, in coordination with Policy & Advocacy, Program, Finance, Operations and Resource Development teams. (10%)
Required Background and Experience, Skills and Behaviors
Minimum 8-10 years of experience donor facing fundraising for a non-profit, including at least 2 years of experience with program/proposal development for large, multi-partner, multimillion dollar organizations or agencies.
Additional weight will be given to candidates that have experience with New Business Development; and can bring that experience to US Programs for a new system of new business development.
Experience in writing, research, account management and administrative work. Demonstrated ability to write high-quality documents and technical proposals, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail are required.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree a plus.
