The primary responsibility of the Senior Director, Resource Development, is to provide overall leadership and development of vision and strategies to achieve US Programs fundraising goals by working in close partnership with Agency RD team to drive the revenue growth and new funding opportunities of major corporate partnership in support of US Programs strategic goals.
As member of USP's Senior Management Team, the Senior Director will play a principal advisory role to the US Programs Leadership and work closely with the National and State Based Program Leadership teams to achieve US Programs private fundraising goals.
The Senior Director, Resource Development, will develop and implement a fundraising strategy with specific focus on securing multi-year gifts from high net-worth individuals, corporations and foundations and leading the overall private fundraising activities of US programs with the expectation to achieve a minimum of $4 million annual fundraising goal. Strong focus will be placed on positioning US Program with private donors and corporations as a long-term partner of choice for corporate giving practices.
Moreover the position holder will lead, mentor and develop a team of professionals including the Associate Director for Resource Development and Manager of Grant Writing to achieve significant revenue goals.
As member of the senior management team the position holder is required to demonstrate Save the Children's Leadership Culture and Core Values.
This position can be located in Washington DC or Fairfield Ct.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Impact
Develop and implement fundraising strategy to support USP's strategic plan, focusing on short-term success, as well as long-term support for early childhood, literacy, physical activity and nutrition. Prepare and execute cultivation strategies for current and prospective private and corporate donors, focusing on high-net worth individuals, corporations and foundations, including community foundations in the states where USP works. Document all actions in BBEC. Establish partnership and productive work relationship across senior level leaders in USP, RD and across the agency. (50%)
Serve as leadership link with Resource Development Division for strategy and cultivation of high-dollar donors, including individuals, foundations and corporations. Advise USP leadership team and RD colleagues on fundraising goals and opportunities; program priorities and best practices. (30%)
Oversee development of proposals and reports, ensuring that they are of the highest quality and submitted on time and in accordance with donor requirements. Directly responsible for driving annual revenue of $2 million or more through key corporate partnerships and private fundraising efforts. Collaborate with national and state based teams to ensure all donor expectations for reporting are fully satisfied and are of highest quality. (15%)
Lead, mentor and develop Resource Development support staff, including Associate Director Resource Development and manager of Grant Writing. Establish performance goals and individual career plans and provide regular feedback to support growth and achievement of goals. Promote experience sharing and collaboration with RD and other functions. (5%)
Required Background and Experience, Skills and Behaviors
Fifteen plus years of experience in progressively responsible private or public fundraising positions with a large, national organization, with a proven track record of raising six and seven figure gifts.
Extensive experience 10+ years in high-level corporate fundraising required. Proven track record in stewarding and growing corporate partnerships in competitive, matrix environments, ideally with a global/national nonprofit organization.
Advanced degree in relevant field of study.
Proven ability to build strong relationships with high net worth individuals, as well as ability to engage, work effectively and gain the respect of various constituencies including senior corporate executives, decision makers, Board members and senior leadership staff.
Extensive knowledge of current theories and practices in corporate social responsibility, shared value and partnership trends with the ability to conceptualize initiate and deliver multi-stakeholder projects that meet specific goals. Knowledge of development work in the US in the areas of Education, Health, and Emergency response.
An effective communicator with strong people skills and demonstrated team player. Strong coaching skills to hire, lead and mentor a team of fundraisers to success. Passion and commitment to Save the Children’s mission and values.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including writing and presenting.
Ability to think clearly, strategically and develop long-range plans.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, etc.) and RE 7 (or similar donor database) required.
