The Wentworth by the Sea Hotel in New Castle, NH seeks an experienced Director of Catering to join our team! The Director of Catering is responsible for overseeing the entire events department. This includes directing, training and managing the event team to achieve budgeted revenue goals while providing strong leadership and maintaining company standards.
The DOC personally books and details VIP events, & large weddings/social events which requires acting as the liaison between the hotel operations team and group contacts to ensure a smooth and successful event for the client. This includes being responsible for maintaining overnight room blocks, catering, audio visual, and setup requirements. The ideal candidate will have a professional demeanor, superb organization skills, experience in customer service and management of a team in the hospitality industry specific to events.

The DOC demonstrates outstanding leadership coupled with sales skills. He/she will have the proven ability to develop a strong team, produce revenue for the hotel, and uphold high personal performance standards. This individual should display strong analytical, organizational, and administrative skills with attention to detail, leading by example. The DOC must be a hands-on manager who is a creative, innovative self-starter who has the ability to analyze and resolve any challenges.

Overall Responsibilities Include:

Set standards and procedures for the events team when it comes to booking, detailing and executing events. Responsible for ensuring that team follows set SOPs.
Create quarterly goals for each team member to include soliciting social business as well as projects that target specific areas within their job roles. Oversee catering team’s day to day performance to ensure associates are following company standards as well as providing guidance and mentoring to catering team.
Manage catering office to include monthly schedules and time off requests to ensure proper coverage. Create an office atmosphere that motivates and encourages associates to perform to the best of their ability, encouraging growth and cross-training.
Resolicit business and prospect for new clients while developing and maintaining all account relationships.
Fully manage the development and execution of all hotel produced special events to include grand tastings and special holiday events.
Prepare, implement, and compile data for catering marketing plan, annual goals, forecasts, pace, and other reports as directed and/or required.
Participate in tradeshows, client events, and represent the hotel at local/regional networking events. Participate in sales blitzes and outside sales calls.
Qualify and respond to all incoming walk-in, phone, and electronic leads
Manage bookings from contract through detailing to include managing audio-visual details, BEOs, and billing aspects. Work closely with all departments to ensure all group needs are being met.
Work with the marketing department on annual marketing plans specific to publications, website, and social media development to ensure marketing budget is maximized.
Work with the food and beverage director to create annual food and beverage minimums, site fees and pricing. Assist culinary team with all menu and package developments.
Administer sales system (CI/TY) and stay updated with all system updates and ensure all required training are completed. Manage all property settings in CI/TY including inputting menus and prices.

Qualified applicants must meet the following criteria:

5+ years experience in hospitality and catering sales, including supervisory experience
Must be able to adapt quickly and positively to new situations or changes
Must be a multi-tasker and be able to prioritize
Prompt decision making skills and ability to work under pressure
Strong customer service and problem solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Goal oriented with a good track record and the ability to effectively close business
Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing standards
Creativity in designing events
Good interpersonal and presentation skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Must be able to pull reports and analyze and interpret data
Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (position includes some nights and weekends)
Must be highly proficient in Microsoft programs including Word and Excel
CI/TY and Marriott sales system experience a plus

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required, hospitality degree beneficial
