The Director and team will consult and provide counsel to a range of enterprise teams on regulatory matters and business requirements. The Director will also oversee and participate in defending the company against any compliance or enforcement activity associated with the federal regulatory team"s portfolio.
The Director will have a key role in shaping T-Mobile"s advocacy efforts in the above areas to strive for a favorable regulatory framework. The Director will interface with a multitude of stakeholders across T-Mobile. Externally, s/he will serve as the company"s principal advocate on the issues within this portfolio, tasked with shaping existing and future regulations before federal regulatory agencies, including the CFPB, Treasury, FCC, NTIA, FTC, DOJ, and DHS. S/he will also help represent the company in industry and in other external advocacy settings. While the quality and accomplishments of a person"s career will be the determining factor, the finalist must have the following requisite qualifications: Minimum of 10 years of experience in government affairs; the ideal candidate possesses experience working in government service, combined with litigation for a law firm or in-house legal team. Must have strong understanding of and recent experience with financial services regulatory compliance, as well as a proven track record of litigation, specifically defending against federal agency and state AGs" enforcement activities and proceedings (or representing those agencies) Experience with privacy and cybersecurity regulatory requirements and industry standards is a plus A Juris Doctorate is required. Experience effectively leading and developing a team. Able to build relationships and use influence effectively within the business and with external constituencies. Skilled at building both traditional and non-traditional alliances as well as developing and implementing sophisticated strategies and campaigns to advance the interests of a business. Possesses established, bipartisan relationships with key policymakers at the CFPB, FCC, FTC, and other executive branch agencies and is recognized for having high integrity by policymakers regardless of party. Has a clear understanding of the complex policy, political, and regulatory implications that affect companies operating in the telecommunications arena. Outstanding written and verbal communications skills. Work directly with enterprise teams developing innovative and new financial services products. Assist business lines and the financial services legal team with ensuring financial services practices incorporate state and federal regulatory requirements and comply with applicable financial services laws, regulations, and industry standards. Ensure that appropriate consumer protection controls are in place with respect to fair lending and consumer protection laws, regulations, and industry standards, including a process for handling and responding to applicable consumer complaints. Assist with due diligence efforts related to new financial services business, acquisitions, or new third party arrangements. Ensure that financial services operating policies, standards, and procedures incorporate all relevant legal, regulatory requirements and guidance. Proactively share regulatory requirements with the business areas that are developing new, or making changes to existing, financial services products or processes. Monitor legal, regulatory and industry changes and advise the business in appropriate areas. Privacy & Cybersecurity : Oversee any advocacy on the federal regulatory front to help ensure that new privacy or cybersecurity requirements do not impede reasonable business practices. Assist business lines with ensuring that new business models and partnerships incorporate regulatory requirements and industry standards as to privacy and cybersecurity. Enhance the Government Affairs team"s privacy and cybersecurity role as it partners with Legal to ensure that the company"s products, services and practices are consistent with the growing web of privacy and cybersecurity concerns. Compliance : Defend the company with regard to compliance related investigations or actions emanating from the host of state and federal regulations that touch this portfolio. Also assist with investigations relating to issues outside this portfolio.
