The Director Engineering is a dynamic, entrepreneurial leader responsible for the direct management of fast evolving product engineering teams, improvement in processes and service quality, strategic planning and management of resources. This leader is accomplished in the development and deployment of complex software solutions and is responsible for all phases of the product development and deployment lifecycle using Agile practices.
The Director plays a critical role in enhancing and enabling business capabilities through technology innovation and collaboration with the business, has a deep technical understanding of the product in order to plan, manage and execute a development roadmap and possesses a true passion for technology that is readily apparent in their past experience and/or personal projects as well as is an expert with the technologies being used by the team. They balance this with building relationships with their business product owners and technology stakeholders to execute the development roadmap.

Primary responsibilities include:
Driving the technology strategy and capability roadmap for AXP Smart Offers platform, and advancing AXP's partnership capabilities with other digital partners wherever applicable.
Work with business leaders, internal and external partners to help shape the over-arching enterprise strategy.
Direct end-to-end responsibility for product delivery, budget, resource capacity, availability and performance targets
Ensure product releases are high quality, deliver excellent user experiences, perform seamlessly at scale, and comply with regulatory requirements.
Ensure appropriate utilization of technology experts to drive synergy and technology re-use to deliver global innovative solutions.
Collaborate successfully with product, designers, and a broad set of internal technical partners (across multiple internal groups)
Establish and maintain a strong relationship with business partners, ensuring a regular communication of delivery progress, is maintained.
Keep up with the latest industry research and emerging technologies to ensure we are appropriately leveraging new techniques and capabilities
Bring a strong technical foundation; able to engage the team on architecture and design, and get under the hood of complex architectures, systems, and interface design
Lead teams in iterative product development using lean principles
Consistently question assumptions, challenge the status quo, and push for improvement
Build and lead a high-performance team of software engineers
Drive resolution of conflicts between vendors, business leaders and technology groups.
Demonstrate accountability while leading people with passion, enthusiasm, loyalty and integrity.
Own and lead HR processes such as performance reviews, talent development, etc.

Qualifications
8+ years of experience managing software engineering teams designing and building software products in a fast paced, complex and dynamic product development environment
Strong knowledge of AXP transaction processing, closed loop network and data.
Requires experience transforming and leading technology teams and adopting Agile/Lean principles
Requires experience proven technical experience with modern development frameworks, continuous integration/continuous delivery tool chains, and the full software development lifecycle
Innovative problem solver with the ability to generate and implement a strategy
Experience designing and delivering high availability/high performance secure digital applications supporting large traffic volumes
Proven track record in delivering large-scale projects in highly matrixed business and technology environments requiring cross functional coordination, through a combination of influence, partnership, and authority
Experience managing financials and negotiating vendor contracts with outsourced development and external hosting partners.
Ability to drive results in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment - ability to support multiple concurrent activities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface with internal/external people at all levels.
Demonstrated ability to debate ideas/strategy, comfortable managing constructive conflict, and not afraid to challenge the status quo
Ability to hire, motivate and grow a high performing team of subject matter experts delivering on strategic objectives while continuously evolving and improving
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field (or has equivalent work experience).
