The Weather Channel Television Network is seeking a highly qualified, director-level transactional attorney to structure, negotiate and draft content licensing, production, advertising, and technology agreements. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, the attorney will work closely with a range of business associates in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment. The lawyer candidate will counsel business partners directly, and will have primary responsibility for agreements and the opportunity to make a direct impact on the success of the network.
This position requires strong drafting skills and demonstrable experience with intellectual property and content licensing matters. In addition, some experience with employment advice and litigation would also be an asset. A strong understanding and knowledge of the television industry is a must.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Review, draft and negotiate a range of complex agreements including, content licensing production, advertising, and technology agreements
Assist with advice on legal issues related to live news coverage, including copyright and fair use, defamation, publicity rights, invasion of privacy, and trespass
Provide high quality oral and written legal advice in a cost-effective manner to internal clients with minimal supervision
Maintain current knowledge of relevant areas of law and provide proactive advice regarding the implications of new laws impacting the company
Handle a variety of agreements and matters of a general nature for various departments within the company
Education, Experience, Certification Requirements
5 years business and legal affairs experience at a network, studio, or television production company and/or a major law firm.
JD degree from an accredited law school required.
Admitted to GA Bar or eligible to obtain admission as In-House Counsel.
