Director Merchandising Strategies REI Kent

Job Description:
As a newly created role, the right candidate for the Director, Merchandising Strategies will be comfortable embracing ambiguities as opportunities and articulating a point of view. Success in this role will require broad thought leadership and demonstrated strength in influencing leaders across the organization. Candidate must be able to articulate business strategies to internal partners as well as have oversight for project management associated with that strategy.
Success will require the cultivation of a broad reaching network of partners and the ability to work with agility within a traditionally rigid framework. This individual must be visionary, able to develop strategy from the ground up and then have confidence and strength in voice to hold others, including merchandising and cross divisional leaders to alignment and implementation.

Key Responsibilities:
• Align, organize and support the GMM’s in the development of a multi-year strategic pipeline for launch and go to market strategies.
• Build and articulate framework of disciplines for complex bodies of work (e.g. local, relevant assortments) that enable consistent, containable and far reaching adoption across multiple merchandising teams.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Retail, Digital Retail and Public Affairs to ensure a holistic approach to merchandising strategies.
• Manage and develop a manager level role who will specifically support launch and go to market strategies.

Bring your passion and expertise
• 5+ years of merchandising and product management experience including general management, assortment planning and inventory management with 3+ years with a multi-channel company with sales above $500MM/year preferred.
• Insight and experience in planning and executing merchandising strategies and business plans across national and geographic markets.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related subject preferred.
• Demonstrated success in go-to-market-driven environment, and successfully leading brand and product strategies from concept to market.
• Understanding of the REI Brand and the outdoor specialty retail business preferred.
• Strong collaboration, communication and presentation skills to effectively drive vision and strategy; builds constructive organizational relationships.
• Strong experience and knowledge of marketing, communication and sales channel tools and messaging to drive brand awareness, sales and profitability.
• Proven negotiation experience and relationship building skills
• Passion and talent for pushing boundaries: challenges the status quo; identifies and capitalizes on key opportunities and risks; effectively plans, executes and leads change.
• Able to balance divisional and co-op needs and priorities in decision-making; makes decisions in a manner consistent with REI’s values and ethics.
