Job Description:
Shed Media US Inc. seeks a Director, Business & Legal Affairs for the Shed Media US Legal department. Position will serve as day-to-day business and legal affairs executive focusing on unscripted television programming. Negotiates with network lawyers and talent representatives, and drafts a wide range of agreements related to the development, production and delivery of multiple overlapping shows.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Negotiates and drafts on-camera participant and above-the-line agreements with agents and entertainment attorneys.
Negotiate and drafts other deal memos, agreements and short form contracts including location agreements, music licenses, tradeout agreements, etc.
Review numerous cuts of Shed shows and vet for legal issues, ensuring that the content does not violate any laws or otherwise expose Shed to risk (copyright, torts, and so on).
Negotiate development deals, production services agreements and network licenses.
Provides day-to-day and on-call services to identify and address any legal and business issues that may arise during production of individual unscripted programs.
Liaise between the various networks and Shed on a variety of production matters, including risk management, diligence matters for shows in pre-production or production including reviewing background and psych reports with the network and reaching out to cast and crew to address any red flags.
Negotiate and modify composer agreements and music licenses. Maintain database summary of music licenses with various music publishers and record labels.
Provides regular status updates with respect to deals.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
JD required.
Minimum of three (3) years production legal experience.
Minimum of two (2) years business affairs experience, preferably at a studio or production company.
Unscripted television experience strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of copyright and trademark laws, and rights of publicity and personality.
Knowledge of Windows, Excel, and Microsoft Word required.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.
Ability to communicate complex legal and business concepts with non-lawyers including creative personalities, in a highly collaborative environment.
