Job Description:
Opening for a senior leader in the R&D, Global Center for Social Innovation in Silicon Valley. Hitachi is developing Social Infrastructure Solutions that span through and include technologies from multiple Hitachi companies and divisions such as Hitachi Data Systems, Hitachi Consulting, business divisions in US/Japan and research labs in Japan and North America. These solutions include Infrastructure Information Technology Operational technologies (Infrastructure IT OT) and the Center for Social Innovation (CSI), R&D of Hitachi America Ltd. (HAL) is taking the lead to develop and incubate these solutions. These are unique solutions that solve big customer problems.
The incubation process involves co-creation of solutions in partnership with customers with a focus on solving their big infrastructure problems. Customer involvement and co-creation during the incubation process is critical. The Senior Director Solutions Incubation, will lead the effort to engage with customers to co-create and incubate solutions. This is an individual contributor position that is based in Santa Clara, CA.

The Senior Director Solutions Incubation will be responsible for successful incubation of existing solutions being developed as well new solutions to be created. The Senior Director will understand the solutions, IT & OT technologies, customer requirements and engage with customers to enroll them as incubation partner to co-create solutions with Hitachi. As part of incubation he/she will build the value proposition, customer RoI models and business cases for customers to engage in co-creation. The co-creation process may require partnering with external partners in creation, marketing or delivery of the solution. The Senior Director must have a clear understanding of IT x OT market, associated business models, delivery processes, delivery models and partnership models. During the customer engagement process he/she should be able to identify and understand customer pain points/problems and be able to propose potential IT x OT solutions as well as communicate the customer problems to the technology teams in high level technical terms.

In addition, the Senior Director will co-ordinate with development teams in R&D, business units and other Hitachi organizations and provide support for building solutions from existing ideas, and help to develop new ideas based on your industry experience and your contact with customers and prospects. He/she will be required to build business plans for new solutions to justify investment in development so the Senior Director must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy, a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. This position will entail spending time in the market to understand customer problems, and finding innovative solutions for the broader infrastructure market with the ability to communicate with all areas of the company. The initial focus will be to engage and acquire new customers to co-create solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Engage with prospects, new and existing customers for incubation and co-creation of solutions.

Remain engaged with the development teams during the entire incubation cycle to build the value proposition, business case, customer RoI, enroll sales and delivery partners.

Understand and help specify market requirements for current and future solutions by conducting market research supported by on-going visits to customers and non-customers.

Development of business plans for new solutions to justify internal funding as well business justification for the solutions.

Development of value proposition, customer benefit analysis, pricing, business models.

Key contributor in bid preparation for customer co-creation proposals.

Partner with marketing communications to define the messaging strategy, helping them understand the solution positioning, key benefits, and target customer.

Serve as the internal and external evangelist for solution offering, working with the sales channel and key customers.

Computer Science or Engineering degree and MBA or equivalent work experience.

15 years sales/marketing/product management experience in software or software services, preferably in the infrastructure space

Knowledgeable in IT & OT technologies.

This position requires travel to customer and non-customer sites in North America and overseas at least 50% of the time.
