Job Description:
We have a key leadership position as Director of Edge Platform Engineering. We are looking for a visionary software leader to drive the development of our next generation edge platform. This critical position is located at Honeywell Global headquarters in Morris Plains, New Jersey and reports directly to VP of Platform Engineering.
Responsibilities For This Position Include
Drive the strategy and development engineering for IoT edge products across Honeywell. Development will involve working with diverse product teams, managing priorities and schedules.
Provide strong technical leadership to a set of teams that will produce an array of hardware, firmware, software and analytics capabilities.
Collaborate with various Honeywell managers and professionals in US and overseas in the areas of Enterprise Architecture, IoT gateway and application development.
Shape the design for the next generation IoT platform. Effectively identify, resolve and drive the issues to closure.
Rationalize various solution approaches and provide a strategic, forward looking direction for IoT edge product development.
Identify the value proposition offered by the IoT edge level product. Influence and sell the value proposition within Honeywell organization and executives.
Be the focal point for Honeywell IoT edge product development and commercialization.
Responsible for defining, communicating, and leading major software and hardware development projects including program planning, execution, risk management, risk mitigation, issues identification and resolution, task breakdown, scheduling, quality metrics, team building and resource allocation.
Manage a set of geographically distributed set of resources through matrix relationships.
Hands on leadership and management with excellent problem solving, communication, team building and organization skills
Coordinate the development of accurate work estimates for new programs including assumptions and risks.
Provide critical expertise and innovation across different software languages/architectures.
Rapidly assimilate new technologies. Capable of formulating and evaluating technical alternatives based on experience while working with specialists to develop the solution.
Ability to communicate well within all organization levels in order to define project requirements and proactively manage a complete project life cycle.
Assess variances from the plan then develop and implement changes as necessary to ensure project meet time, cost, and quality objectives.
Utilize process improvement techniques such as Six Sigma tools and SEI-CMM processes.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or related field
Minimum of 10 years of experience managing software development projects within a full life cycle product environment including 3 years in an Agile development framework
2 years of hardware and software systems and principles
Additional Qualifications
In-depth experience in building and delivering highly complex hardware, firmware and software products that are used by a very large, geographically distributed user base.
Strong ability to influence people and negotiation skills
Familiarity with Internet of Things (IoT) preferred
Familiarity with Agile methodologies, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Cloud Service Models and DevOps
3 years of managing product development leaders
3 years managing multi-site product development teams
MBA preferred
Familiarity with Open Source Software products
Familiarity with industrial protocols such as BACnet, ZigBee, LonWorks, AMQP, CoAP, HTTP/REST, etc.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Global experience
Success in working in a matrix setting
