Senior Director Strategic Sourcing Medtronic Northridge

Job Description:
Key functional individual responsible for the management, identification, implementation and alignment of global sourcing strategies, initiatives, supply assurance, risk mitigation, sourcing continuous improvement and productivity programs as well as global supplier network capabilities for commodity materials to achieve business objectives. Responsible for the management of approximately $300M of commodity materials across the Diabetes Group globally.
Create a vision, provide leadership and develop the commodity team members that foster a cohesive, highly skilled, and effective team that delivers substantial value to the Diabetes organization. Ensure development and implementation of effective global cross divisional category strategies that are aligned with Business Unit objectives for cost, quality, risk mitigation, performance and leverage opportunities across divisions, functions and geographies. Identifies metrics, tools, and processes to optimize sourcing, supplier activities, efficiencies, and works collaboratively with stakeholders to prioritize and drive implementation.



Position Responsibilities

• Implements Global Sourcing strategy and commodity management strategy, including emerging country sourcing.
• Leads Diabetes Group cross-functional teams in developing sourcing strategies/programs for materials where standardization/aggregation will yield significant savings or process improvement and drive functional excellence.
• Participates in the establishment of strategic and operating plans, budgets, goals and priorities and in formulation of strategies, organizational policies and operating procedures for the respective Business.
• Supports Category Management and New Product Development to identify New Product Development technology needs for the Business and identify suppliers capable of meeting requirements with sustained quality levels.
• Participates in Strategic Supplier Reviews to drive value improvement opportunities across the organization.
• Conducts regular reviews of sourcing programs and ensures best practices are implemented throughout the organization.
• Drive strategic global category sourcing strategies, implementing and maintaining risk analysis and mitigating action to protect the revenue stream.
• Designs and implements strategies to rationalize the global supplier base and maximize the value of spend.
• Manage consistent supplier Selection and de-Selection process.
• Manage ongoing Supplier Performance Management process.
• Drives industry best practices and provides leadership to implement continuous improvement within the global supply base.
• Aligns organization with global business unit key initiatives in order to align resources, enable success and drive value enhancement.
• Responsible for sourcing process and system standardization for the Business
• Establish raw material standards and supports implementation / deployment of strategies and productivity improvement programs to achieve Business and Operations objectives.
• Implements programs to drive total cost of acquisition improvement activities to enhance margin and improve service levels.
• Creates/implements major material price movement strategy methodology including hedging, forward buying and cost protection.
• Creates/establishes external benchmark analysis including gap analysis and required actions to achieve functional competitive advantage.
• Negotiates Supplier contracts, develops supplier qualification and supplier phase in and phase out process
• Improves specific supplier performance improvement plans in areas that impedes our ability to meet our customers’ requirements.



Basic Qualifications

• BS/BA Degree in Business, Business Management, Supply Chain Management other related field.
• 15+ years of Purchasing, Sourcing, or Supply Chain Management in manufacturing operations, engineering or other relevant area;
• 10+ years leadership experience managing a team.
• Experience utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Project Management and Six-Sigma Methodologies. Certification from the Institute of Supply Management (e.g.C.P.M., C.P.I.M, C.I.R.M., C.Q.E.), • Experience using eSourcing platform (ARIBA)
• Demonstrated strategic sourcing skills in a multi-business, multi-location global environment.
• Must have technical knowledge related to performance and manufacturing processes related to fabricated components, fibers, films, electronic and/or plastic commodity items
• Proven track record of building credible, reliable, customer focused sources of supply.

• Experience in a continuous improvement environment with a track record of achieving significant productivity improvement (Quality, Service Levels, Delivery and Cost) year on year.

• Has medical device technical knowledge and ability to comprehend complex items related to customer, category and equipment specifications, contract terms and conditions, statements of work, engineering drawings and material specifications.
• Must have technical knowledge related to performance and manufacturing processes related to Packaging, Fibers & Non-woven, Film & Substrates and Resins & Chemical.
• Must have sufficient analytical skills to perform highly complex total cost of ownership analysis.
• Be willing to travel – extensive at times.
• Must maintain high ethical standards to support a professional business code of conduct.
