Position Overview
The Director of Marketing is responsible for managing the Marketing Department. This position directs, develops, implements, and facilitates marketing strategies, activities, communications, and policies both external and internal. Oversees development and implementation of support materials and services of marketing, communications and public relations; designed to build brand awareness, reputation, and capitalize on market opportunities to generate demand. Accomplishes business development activities by researching and developing marketing opportunities and plans by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.


Essential Functions
The Director of Marketing will work directly towards the development of management policies for the Marketing Department and will be generally tasked with the enforcement of those policies within the department
The Director of Marketing will be tasked with customarily and regularly exercising discretion and independent judgment in decision making relative to the operation of the Marketing Department
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Operations, Finance, Research & Development, marketing agencies, etc. to develop integrated programs to deliver business results.
Brand Management: Working on building out the foundational marketing touch points for the brand – collateral, digital, etc.
Brand Planning: Lead development of annual integrated marketing plan, driven by consumer insights and competitive analysis to deliver brand growth strategies and further company mission.
Research and Analysis: Lead consumer, competitive and category research and analysis to guide strategy and implement initiatives to capitalize on learnings.
Consumer & Customer Marketing Activation: Oversee development, execution and analysis of annual consumer and customer marketing plans that deliver on brand strategy and business objectives and ensure all activities are compatible with the brand’s communication strategy and messaging
Product innovation: Works with Research & Development team to deliver successful commercialization of new innovation, line extensions and product optimization projects, working closely with cross-functional team on product development, pricing and launch plans.
Manage all projects within budget and aggressive timelines
Report marketing inventory and production to management
Strategic, critical, analytical thinking with an ability to develop, communicate, and implement annual marketing plans that improve brand equity and financial performance
Develop programs that may be new and different, but are on strategy and move product
Lead and build trust across disciplines through strong cross-functional leadership and collaboration skills
This position is a designated, authorized representative to operate a company vehicle to transport marketing employees in the event of a non-emergency, work-related incident

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
Perform other duties as assigned
Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
Prioritize tasks
Prioritize, organize and delegate assignments

Supervisory Responsibility
This position manages the Customer Service Representative, Technical Design Coordinator, Resident Nutritionist & Strategic Partnerships, Marketing Support, Social Media Specialist, and any marketing interns

Travel
Occasional overnight travel (up to 20%) by land and/or air

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plant and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.

Desired Skills and Experience

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Marketing or a related field, and a minimum of five years related experience with progressive managerial responsibilities

Current valid Driver’s License
Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) from the DMV with the California water seal
A completed Authorization for Release of Driver Record Information (INF 1101 form), thereby consenting to being enrolled in the California DMV Employer Pull Notice Program (EPN)

Preferred Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Marketing or a related field, and two to five years director level experience; or five to ten years senior managerial marketing experience
Experience with consumer product marketing is a plus
