ASTS (Architecture and Shared Technology and Services), a division within Fidelity Management and Research Company (FMRCo), specializes in providing first class database architecture, modeling and development services for various asset management divisions in FMRCO. This position will manage all database engineering resources that deliver applications in the Research Product Line.
The Research product line enables Fidelity’s Asset Management advisors to find the best investment opportunities to maximize the risk adjusted returns for the fund shareholders. The Research Product Line supports Fixed Income, Equity, High Income, Asset Allocation as well as Institutional portfolio managers and traders. Research product has multiple Key Initiatives advancing modernizing the research applications portfolio, reporting and integration. The Database Development Manager for Research must have a sound foundation in database engineering discipline with extensive experience in managing 10+ direct resources in multiple locations supporting multiple, complex development projects simultaneously. The individual will be responsible for the delivery, resource management, as well as, technology partner management in a highly matrixed organization structure.
Primary Responsibilities
This individual will be a development manager and Database lead for the Research Product Line, with the following responsibilities:
Manage a team of exempt and non-exempt database software engineers and data scientists/ data analysts/data modelers
Execute on hiring, performance assessment, and coaching / career development of team members
Partner with offshore staffing partners in India to successfully deliver projects and support
Lead the design and implementation of robust database solutions for key initiatives and core and maintenance projects to deliver Research Database capabilities for the Asset Management business unit
Work collaboratively with Product Managers, architects, analysts, and application developers to ensure solutions scale and are extensible for the long-term
Provide technical oversight and mentoring to developers
Grow and apply subject matter expertise for the compliance product line, including educating and mentoring other team members worldwide, and advocating for simplication and cross product leverage
Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key IT and business partners
Reduce technology debt by helping with technology upgrades
Establish/maintain rapport and engage regularly with the Quality Assurance and Database Operations teams
Report out to management and business partners on matters relating to the delivery teams the team is supporting
Desired Skills and Experience
Education and Experience
BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
10+ years of database software development on complex IT projects
5+ years of people management experience
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to provide technical leadership to development teams
Proven experience delivering software solutions in the investment management domain
Skills and Knowledge
Strong database technology background including Oracle, Hadoop, SQL, PL/SQL, etc.
Solid knowledge of batch data movement using Informatica ETL and real time data replication using queues and Golden Gate
Demonstrated ability to influence and build consensus
Expertise in software product development practices and techniques, including agile development
Strategic perspective on how to apply technology to solve business issues
Asset management business domain knowledge
