Director Process Solutions Research Development Starbucks Seattle

Job Description:
This job contributes to Starbucks success by leading the Process Solutions team in defining, developing, and managing new process engineering and development projects within the greater Global Product Innovation organization at Starbucks. This role includes both company and external manufacturing processes. This role will ensure projects align with company strategies and ensure the team is working against both short term and long-term company strategies. This position encompasses a variety of food manufacturing process with emphasis on liquid and solid soluble coffee, and tea and other liquid food production processes.

Leadership
Leds and sets goals for the work group, develops organizational capability, and models how the team works within the greater Research & Development organization.
Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the team promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
Aligns with cross-functional partners to ensure alignment within projects and programs for all team projects.
Supports the implementation of Company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive advantage.
Planning and Execution
Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution and measuring results.
Assists in the development of long-term strategies and plans.
Contributes to strategic planning process for business units/department(s).
Contributes to the development of the annual operating plan and budget, and quarterly forecast updates.
Develops annual operating plan and budget, and quarterly forecasts and updates.
Establishes priority and resource requirements for department projects.
Plans and manages business unit and department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.
Communicates and educates team and cross functional groups on changes in policies and practices within the organization.
Business Requirements
Ensures alignment and coordination of process development.
Executes product strategies and aligns with Starbucks corporate strategy.
Generates creative, new ideas for coffee, tea, food, and ingredient manufacturing processes. Incubates and develops project plans and proposals.
Maintains key functional relationships with Starbucks centers of excellence to ensure best practices are shared across teams.
Tracks project status and budgets on all team projects.
Partner Development & Team Building
Challenges and inspires partners to achieve business results.
Conducts and ensures completion of performance reviews.
Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
Provides coaching, direction, and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business, and customer results.

Soluble/Liquid process Development and Commercialization (10 years)
People and R&D department management (7 years)
Packaging Supply Chain and Change Management (7 years)

Knowledge, Skills And Ability
BS or MS in Chemical and Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
Is recognized as an expert in R&D/Retail and other fields of interest
Ability to apply sound business principles and practices to project management and change management processes
Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities
Creative and strategic problem solving skills
Ability to flex between strategy to tactics
