Qualifications Required
To qualify, candidates must have the skill and ability to perform the duties described above as demonstrated by progressively responsible supervisory/managerial experience, normally with several years at the GS-15 level or equivalent, which demonstrates clearly the ability to manage people and resources. Candidates must possess an engineering degree, preferably an advanced degree from an accredited college or university in a closely related engineering discipline.
Technical Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with NASA¿s engineering principles, practices, and analytical techniques associated with the design, development, and operations of aerospace systems and supporting infrastructure, throughout their lifecycle.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in leading a multidisciplined engineering enterprise, including civil service and contract employees, providing aerospace products and services to multiple programs in different phases of their lifecycle from concept, to design and development, to operations.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the development and application of NASA¿s multidiscipline engineering processes across the product lifecycle, including formal review of engineering products and resolution of technical issues.
Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-15) which has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

Duties
The Deputy Director, Engineering, is responsible for ensuring the operations and execution of all day-to-day tasks necessary to achieve the Engineering organization's vision for providing superior technical and leadership support to the Agency's and KSC's missions. This position plans, manages, directs, implements, coordinates, integrates, and leads activities associated with all products and services for ground support equipment, ground and appropriate space flight systems, processing facilities, and assigned technology projects. The Deputy Director, Engineering, is responsible for technical, cost, schedule, and associated risk reviews of top-level trade studies and analyses to ensure quality of proposed solution sets. This position develops and implements a formal review board process to ensure technical correctness and baseline control of products and services. The Deputy Director, Engineering, ensures appropriate technical rigor and engineering specifications and standards are applied during the design, development, testing, and operation of technical products and services. This position ensures programs' and customers' requirements are understood and appropriate resources are committed to successfully deliver the products. This position oversees staffing, technical architecture, implementation plans, and schedules to meet project requirements and establish project plans and processes that fulfill program needs during development, certification, installation, activation, validation, and transition into an operational state. The Deputy Director, Engineering, develops and nurtures a strong engineering and technical culture focused on delivering products on time and at agreed-to cost and meeting customer technical requirements. This position develops an integrated engineering position through leading the application of the Chief Engineer function, spanning all the engineering disciplines to address all significant technical issues relative to assigned programs, products, and services.
