The Senior Director User Experience and Product Design is be the driving force behind the incredible efficiency and effectiveness empowering the users of Docker's Products. We’re absolutely dedicated to crafting the best user experience across Docker's build, ship, and run solutions; we need your help. In collaboration with Product Management and Engineering, you are responsible for developing the process, tools, and techniques that result in simple and powerful experiences that also delight our highly engaged community of tens of thousands of developers and sysadmins.

You will be working with the brightest minds in the industry with a small but talented team of designers, defining the overall vision of design at Docker infusing a user-centered philosophy at all levels. Responsibilities:
Recruit and grow a world-class UX design team: that can adapt with and challenge the talented product and engineering teams.
Deeply understand how open source online communities behave and evolve, why people are motivated to create and contribute, and tap into that power through user-centered design.
Implement quantitative and qualitative user research techniques to create a rock solid foundation and validate decisions.
Develop a design practice that improves consistency, speed, and quality of your design team.
Partner closely with Product Managers and Engineering in driving the overall product design strategy.
Gracefully switch between continuous delivery and big picture vision.
Evangelize true user-centered method throughout the company, tireless champion eliminating the unnecessary, and facilitating effective decision making.
Orchestrate design across multiple products, being developed at light speed, under the microscope of a devoted community.
Qualifications:
Live and breathe UX and UI that embodies elegant utility.
High social and emotional intelligence to understand differing perspectives and work through challenging situations that arise because of ambitious goals.
An innate curiosity and passion for solving hard problems: building tools for technical practitioners like developers and sysadmins, so they may be awesome and creative.
Lead from the front: sharp ability and burning desire to establish the highest level of design, through example.
Expertise in a variety of design tools like Sketch, Invision, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
Deep experience working in a highly fluid environment, where requirements aren’t always crystal clear, and boundaries are there to be pushed.
Recent history of building and scaling successful design teams, in an intense or high growth workplace.
Demonstrable measures of your design influence at an organization level and industry level: speaking engagements, white papers, published design articles, thought leadership, etc.

Nice to have:
Working knowledge of high performance web application and development: full stack technologies, infrastructure, container and virtual machines.
Ability to prototype in various services like Invision, UXPin, Framer, etc., or HTML/CSS/JS.
Experience in the design of software and sites for developers and sysadmins
Experience working in a startup where your ideas matter. You are a self-starter, team player, and have excellent communication skills.
